Show HN: Play 20 Questions with ChatGPT

https://20qgpt.com/

Hi HN, I've been having a lot of fun with ChatGPT over the last couple of weeks and wanted to build a game with it.This is my first game, but I collaborated with a friend on the design and visuals (he owns a successful gaming company called FrostyPop). We chose 20 questions because ChatGPT is amazing at confabulating mostly correct answers to just about any question you can come up with. The Meritocracy Trap by Daniel Markovits is a great book on this topic.

It makes a great argument that, unfortunately, merit based admission to elite universities does nothing to increase equality of opportunity because the rich are so much better at training and educating their children.

The upside is that people are forced to earn their privilege with hard work and study, rather than having it handed to them at birth. The downside is that there’s no light at the end of the tunnel, privilege begets more work, which begets more material wealth, which begets yet harder work / overachieving children.

Re:Ask HN: How do you generally build a product? on Wednesday May 05, 2021 @09:43PM (#27058205)
Scratch your own itch. Solving a problem you have will motivate you, but more importantly it’s the only way to be able to navigate through a problem space.

Without being the customer you will have so much trouble coming up with solutions to problems people are willing to pay to solve.

The article ends with: "It doesn’t mean it has an evolutionary basis."

If not evolution, then what? Doesn't all behavior have an evolutionary basis?

Re:Apps that send packages with the Shippo API on Wednesday October 05, 2016 @05:39PM (#12648152)
We have a tracking analytics API for this at EasyPost that'll do the analysis - feel free to reach out to me for the details: my username at easypost.

Sawyer from EasyPost here. Yes, we're generally upstream of Shippo - we power a bunch of their competitors in the app / shipping UI space. We focus more on developer APIs and all of the tools and performance considerations that come with that.

Our UI developers are focused mainly on analytics for the platform - we're happy to leave the click n' ship piece to Shipstation, ShipRush, Shippo, etc.

Re:Recruitly: Evaluate Code to Get Paid on Thursday June 16, 2016 @02:06PM (#11917807)
My gut is that this product will add more noise than signal to the process.
Yes, most carriers will assign a unique tracking code (and shipping label) to each shipment in the order, and also a "master" tracking code for the entire order. Depending on who the recipient is they may want to watch the entire order from the single master tracking code, or keep an eye on each individual shipment.

It's not common, but sometimes individual shipments / parcels get separated from their orders in transit, so it can be helpful to have the individual tracking codes.

It'll probably depend a lot on marketing, and how much Uber and others spend to grow the market.

Same-day delivery's already provided pretty economically by the regional carriers (think Ontrac), but it's never been a huge market.

We offer all three (Postmates, Deliv, and Uber) at EasyPost if you want to test them out with only one API integration.
We call them Orders, and support them for all carriers including Uber.

This is not a company where micro-aggressions will fly.

This seems like such a toxic philosophy to me. One of the worst things you can do for a workplace is stifle honest conversation and criticism, and this focus on not "micro-aggressing" will do just that - the way it has in colleges over the last few years.

Re:Why Big Companies Keep Failing: The Stack Fallacy on Monday January 18, 2016 @08:01PM (#10928192)
Failing to gain traction upstream, not failing to keep the lights on.
Re:Unofficial Google Cardboard Kit on Wednesday June 25, 2014 @11:47PM (#7948036)
drop me a line at my name @ easypost if you want a hand looking into some of the shipping options - I think it's amazing that you guys are offering this a few hours after the announcement!

You forgot to include the pre-order form!
Re:Crypto 101 on Wednesday March 19, 2014 @06:51PM (#7432432)
As a quick fix you can add a target attribute to the big anchor tag:

<a href="..." target="_blank">

It'll still open the PDF in a new window but the underlying site with email prompt will still exist!

Re:NSA Rejection of Digital FOIA on Tuesday June 25, 2013 @12:06PM (#5940424)
Last week: We'd be happy to respond to requests submitted via the handy dandy online form - these paper copies are invalid.

Today: We're sorry, if we told you of the existence or non-existence of data about you it would help terrorists.

Re:Shipping Insurance on Friday June 21, 2013 @02:33PM (#5920038)
Hi ck, we take care of the whole insurance process from purchasing it to dealing with claims.

You'd buy your shipping labels and insurance through the EasyPost API; and if you ever need to make a claim you just email us the details and we take care of the rest!

Re:The Fireplace Delusion on Monday March 11, 2013 @03:18AM (#5355316)
Great example of how to make seculars feel like religious people when confronted with science; and actually quite educational! I had no idea wood smoke was harmful, but am now glad the fireplace in my living room is gas, heh.
Re:Why are payment forms so complicated? on Thursday March 07, 2013 @01:17PM (#5339155)
Hehe, I have a recent relevant experience with this topic:

I just finished a simple gift certificate purchase page[1] for a client where I attempted to cut out all unnecessary details; the client's immediate response? "Looks good, but can we add some more fields like name, address, and security code to make it look more 'official'".

Edit: I don't necessarily disagree with their intuition; I think some consumers might actually be suspicious of a sparse payment form but I don't have any hard data.

The meteor-router package does enable server side routing, yes. Take a look at the bottom of the README on github.
Re:Staples Announces In-Store 3D Printing Service on Thursday November 29, 2012 @02:59PM (#4849919)
Minor nitpick with the title - the 3D printing will not be done in store (yet), it will be done offsite and shipped for pick up in store.
I can't click on any links in the top 155px pixels of the window because of the cloud header (even when scrolled down, it remains fixed at a higher z-index).

Re:Why Johnny can't stream: How video copyright went insane on Thursday August 30, 2012 @02:15PM (#4455946)
Isn't this exactly how ReDigi operates? Is it different if the first sale is to a consumer rather than a company?

My reading was that ReDigi facilitates the "sale" of a song form one user to another by switching a DRM bit. Couldn't Zevida have done the same thing? Transfer ownership of the file to the user before pressing play on the dvd player?

The only problem with a calculator like this (intelligent as it is), is that it doesn't model the most significant cost of home ownership - upkeep. Compound that with a complete inability to model the risk associated with "home price appreciation" and it's really only of academic interest.

In my experience this decision cannot be made empirically - home ownership will probably be more expensive, but will afford more freedom and stability (no one will sell the property out from under you and disrupt your family). In addition, like any investment, there is a possibility but not a guarantee that the asset will appreciate; however this is not a given - look closely at the economic future of your location and try to decide if there will be more or less demand to live there in twenty years - the Bay Area will probably be safe :)

There's also a significant opportunity cost attached to a down payment.

Don't get me wrong, I think SmartAsset has done a phenomenal job with this calculator! Just keep some of the intangibles in mind that are impossible to model this way before making the decision to rent/buy for yourself.
