In that case, they must have no clue what ‘proles’ is short for.
You’re correct. Contrary to characteristically similar protest efforts in the US during the past decade, the protesters on the ground this time care very little about race. That is only the media narrative. Class consciousness is increasing fast.
Tonight I witnessed a young girl get knocked out cold by a tear gas canister shot into her face from about a 40 ft. range. She was holding her hands up.
There was nothing but peaceful protesters standing around, not blocking traffic. No vandalism anywhere in sight. This was in Louisville, KY.
The police fired rubber bullets at the group of people carrying her away to a place on the other side of the line of humvees blocking the street to where the ambulance could reach her.
Everything most middle-income Americans think about our police forces is wrong.
No, I mean the American psychological industry.
Thank you. This is what I meant.
Stakeholder capitalism is an oxymoron. You either hold capital or you bear the stakes. That’s the point.
America has a profound ability to diagnose individual problems, and an active inability to diagnose social problems.
The American psychological industry cannot be let off the hook. DSM-5 is a handbook for how to blame society’s failures on individuals. We need scientific doctors capable of considering not only the realities they are allowed to accept but also the realities of the actually existing world in which their patients live.
We desperately need legitimate mental health institutions, but for-profit healthcare and for-profit education cannot provide that.
Completely agree. Sacrificing engagement with the social structures and historical progression that we as a species depend on is not an option that can deliver a healthy society.
No, “the news”, as in the propaganda emanating from the corporate hegemony machine, does not count. But, checking out entirely is nonetheless the worst thing one can do.
So the problem is the catastrophic dismantling of the welfare state over the past several decades.
Ironically, most Americans complaining about getting the economy up and running again also vote against having a basic safety net. I’d say you’re getting what you asked for. Should have at least voted for Medicare For All.
You’re saying: we’re already exploiting foreign labor to some extent, so why not do it more? What kind of logic is that?
The global labor trade has proven a disaster for decades on end. It has destroyed the American middle class. There is no moral justification for any of it.
I am simply saying there is no moral justification for any of it.
It’s important to take seriously because the logical outcome of this turn to remote work will otherwise be greater class divisions than the world has ever known, within the same economic structures.
I have had 4 phone calls so far and I was approved on the first one but haven’t received any benefits. It takes between 1-2 weeks between each call for them to call me back. The last person I spoke with said my case is completely normal (?) and sure enough there are some people on reddit who have had a similar experience. There has been no explanation and no accountability short of these calls when they assure me everything is working out fine, and I assure them the opposite.
Congrats on this bold justification you’ve created to justify your role in the exploitation process, but you’re not fooling anyone. There is no moral or material logic for this nonsense.
In the United States a lot of people I know are eager to get back to work because they don’t want to get evicted or fall behind on car payments and fall into the Spiraling USA Debt Trap that ruins so many lives. I don’t blame them in the least.
I was laid off in March and have still not received any unemployment insurance myself. If that is still the case this time next month I will be freaking out all the same.
Are you paying the same as US teams?
This is all exactly right. Taking issue with global trade has been called “nationalist” and taking issue with global labor is called “racist”. It’s the dirtiest political trick in my lifetime.
We should also acknowledge the desperate lengths to which the US government has gone to soil any honor accrued in any previous wars.
On the recent anniversary of the fall of Auschwitz, The White House twitter account claimed it as a victory of ‘The United States and UK’. Supposedly the already-dishonest ‘Allied Troops’ is not cutting it anymore.
(The Red Army liberated Auschwitz)
Second to the slaves who produced this country, John Brown is probably the greatest American hero.
The rich people create the value so they deserve whatever they want.
UBI doesn’t do that. Unless tied to something like land-value tax, UBI just raises rent cost. Of course it doesn’t happen immediately, but within a year or so UBI will be consumed by rent cost.
The media industry makes it extremely difficult to reach useful information and verify it’s integrity.
Sure, you can find a bunch of journalist blogs online through Reddit and Twitter, but which do you trust? That takes a lot of work, so most working people end up accepting the mainstream corporate news, which conveniently does not offer the information working people need.
Right. It’s pretty unbelievable and very sad that the media has been able to somehow convince so many Americans that Joe Biden is some kind of New Deal Democrat. He was a pioneer of the policies we now know as actually existing neoliberalism.
Yet again, it is even more obvious than before that the United States is an oligarchy without exception.
I moved to Joplin from Evernote a little over a year ago. It has had ongoing development and new features being added the entire time. The development is very iterative, and functionality comes before fashion, but the UI has been getting improved too.
The backup/sync system is great. Fully encrypted and numerous cloud configuration options. I use it with Fastmail’s $5/mo. service and it’s very easy to setup.
The iOS app could use some more improvements but far better than not having one at all.
Overall Joplin is highly recommended because of it’s compatibility, flexibility, privacy, and no-frills functionality.
