Click-bait, precisely to illustrate a point. The real story comes after. Did you actually read it? It has nothing to do with which DE Ubuntu chooses to favour ATM.

(That said, I get it. Hype is everything, whatever does not stink of the "latest tech trend" must be bad. Sad day to be a reader, indeed.)

I'm trying to make it insanely sane :D Looking for a better host already...

Well, your commnt implies that you have not actually read the thing you're complaining about, as "[t]he idea that Debian Stable is a good choice for all users" does not appear in the text anywhere. In fact, the opposite is stated.

Just wondering what made you think it's "an ad for consulting/support services"
Edit: I found the "offending phrase", I think. I dare you to click the link, it leads to a (free) online book. :D

Sry folk, some oversensitive kid took it on themselves to correct what they didn't agree with, and DDoS-ed the site for about an hour or so.
Should be back online now...

According to support, my site just got DDoS-ed. Makes me wonder who can get THAT pissed off with an article about Debian. Anyway, it makes me feel like I'm doing something right. :D
(BTW you're right, it's a cheap host and quite slow even when it's working. Site runs on Grav (flat-file CMS), which is a lot faster than e.g. WP and ilk (on the same chep host))

It's interesting though that Alternative.to does not list TagSpaces. (Is it submission based? maybe nobody cared to submit it yet?)
The Elephant one looks interesting (wonder how long before Evernote complains about the name, see the Nevernote story for example)

Nah, people don't like too much choice. That's why articles like 5 this, 7 that are popular, but if you do something like "247 alternatives", or "All the things that are like...", nobody will read it. Also, to go to that site and do an actual search requires doing something for it, rather than having results delivered without having to search for it. Or even think about searching for it.
Emacs, oh gawd. I don1t see many people using it in place of something with fancy flat design and a bloated UI (aka Evernote) ;)
(I'm the author btw.)
