Exactly! I wouldn’t be surprised if some day in the distant future, that’s where this all goes. Coding languages may in fact be on their way to being dead. You can imagine a world where, regardless the platform, the lowest level instruction format is output.
I've had the exact same conversation with my wife... I think "easier" is subjective. In her mind its easier to do it the way she's doing it. shrug
Yea, it's pretty funny seeing all the posts here from people who cannot fathom why a product like this exists.
It's pretty eye opening really. If it weren't for seeing someone close to me do it, I'd be in the same camp, wondering who in their right mind would use their laptop like that.
My wife sits on the couch, "indian style", with a laptop in her lap angled at about a 45 degree. She holds the edges of it with her arms, and brings the keyboard up to her stomach kinda...
Its hard to describe but its surprisingly comfortable looking and allows her to tap her way through everything without actually having to hold the screen up. If she lets go, the hinge keeps it up. If she needs to type, she just skoots it back back slightly
Not me personally, but my wife does. She will not buy a laptop unless it has touch screen. "So get an iPad" everyone tells her.
No, you don't get it. She wants the keyboard, she wants a first class desktop experience, and she wants a touch screen.
Watching her work is... different. She mostly uses her laptop on her lap, on the couch, scrolling and "clicking" with touch... and when she needs to type something she slides it back slightly, and types. Almost never uses the track pad.

It helps to know a thing or two, about a wide range of topics, for this reason.
Take for instance someone telling you about their career. "I'm a software developer".
You can express interest with a response like "Oh, thats cool, what made you go into that line of work?" but thats a very generic, shallow response.
If you know a thing or two about software, for example, you can ask more interesting questions that show your interest in them, and your knowledge of the space. "Woh cool, how is AI coding impacting your life?"
Suddenly, it seems like you're much more interesting yourself, AND you're interested in them.
The tricky part nowadays is everyone has very niche interests. It's harder than ever to really have a breadth of knowledge that is broadly applicable. This was easier before the internet, before travel, before telecommunication. When your community was your community and news traveled slowly, it was a lot easier to learn about what impacted others.
open to other cities for sure... I only list SF because it's the closest to home. But yea I've considered other cities. I've traveled extensively to Europe and love the cities there so many someday in the future, I'd consider looking into moving there.
I mean I was living and working in SF from like 2013-20217 and this sentiment of "who the F is actually buying homes here" was true for me then too. I worked in tech, downtown, at a big (not FANG) tech company... and nobody I knew owned a home, or was buying one, and yes we talked about it!
I mean is that really what's driving this? Is it FANG couples or something? I mean if you load up Zillow or Redfin, its hard to believe that all these 1.5+ million dollar homes are driven by DINK couples alone... Its just so astounding.
I've love to hear from anyone ACTUALLY BUYING in this market. Yet, nobody who is in that category ever responds. It's quite strange really, it feels artificial, or like I'm just outside this class of people.
Who are they?
I want to be in SF because I love being in dense cities. It's way more fun, and exciting than suburbs.

I've worked in tech now for 15 years, generally "high paying". I lived in SF for the first 4 of this years, between 2014-2018 and remember hearing all about how it was us tech workers who were responsible for high home prices.Fast forward 15 years and despite moving out of the city, and saving as much as I could, I still don't see how I could afford to live in SF.Honestly it boggles the mind a...
let me guess, homeowner in SF?
> The problem with non-wearable solutions is both space required and price
This is such a 2016/2017 problem. No offense but, a limited read of who you might be is someone who got into VR back then, found a number of legitimate reasons it sucked, and never tried it again?
I mean take the space argument. Most modern VR games can be played seated. If you have arms length space around you, you can play some truly excellent VR games. I can't even remember the last time I booted up a VR game and played it standing. Well, it was probably back around 2017.
They VR to be woken up. The headset has become their reality. Who are you to say otherwise?
Yea, but that isn't what HN has been for. It has historically been relatively safe from political stuff. For some of us it's rather sad to see it moving in that direction.
Thanks, that’s the nature of any business. Founders see a way to take existing knowledge and expertise, combine it in some novel or interesting way, and produce a new product
Pretty awesome! Just curious are you vibe coding this?
Curious when slop becomes, not slop. Revenue? Profit? At what point do detractors throw in the towel? Honest question.
For example DHH shipped an entire vibe coded Linux distribution. Should we all roll of eyes at that?
Weird times.
You should not feel guilty at all. These tools belong to the people, and should be fully free. It was after all, the hard work of people’s lives that was stolen and used without permission for training.
Totally agree. AI has gone completely off the rails with weird language, that is frankly hard to follow. It's suggestions are often quite difficult to reason about and I think that has more to do with the models choices than with our distance from the code. It could make much simpler, clearer, more helpful suggestions but often makes convoluted suggestions that might be technically right but make no sense.
There are TONS of VR shooters. What subgenre interests you most?
Any good over ear headphones you’d recommend to someone who is generally skeptical but curious of the audiophile world? Cost being no issue, what would you recommend?
It’s all just cognitive dissonance. Anyone claiming optimism around salaries is just flat wrong. I see non-engineers contributing to production code and it’s simply a matter of time until leadership feels comfortable with downsizing and or lowering salaries.
+1 if they can also scoop the human feces and power wash the sidewalks in SF.
How to maximize productivity with AI. Sounds like this wouldn’t be a skill but I’d argue at the limit, it is.
Any other side effects? I’ve never even heard of this.
Lets go California! Way to be the 71st Country. So glad our leaders are staying on top of this stuff.
lol this is getting so ridiculous... every single model is TOO DANGEROUS...
do they think we're stupid? it's obviously a marketing stunt.
