Re:Ask HN: Donating to FLOSS Projects? on Monday June 27, 2022 @10:10AM (#31894820)
Yes, I am totally investing in myself and maybe I am "solving mortal problems" too but that's besides the point. Donating to stuff you depend on isn't an altruistic act and I am sorry if I made it sound like that. You do make a good point about Kubernetes and Google, and yes I intent not to donate to projects already backed by big money because that's pretty pointless. So, what are projects great projects / organisation so support instead?

Ask HN: Donating to FLOSS Projects?

I depend a lot on FLOSS for my work (and personal life) and I am doing my tiny bit to contribute and I am doing some financial donations too. Especially for the work part I'm more and more starting to feel it's my duty to help out financially, we've all seen too many stories of underfunded FLOSS projects not having the capacity to fix crucial bugs causing severe security problems, or projects...

A automatic seiko watch. I always thought a watch is stupid because I carry a phone with me but I found out leaving my house without my phone is much more enjoyable that with a phone. It seems obvious now but it still feels like a tiny luxury holiday.

Cool! Interesting to see some verilog.

Also, interesting you mention Atari ST in the readme, I wrote a VT52 emulator in m68k assembly for my ST because the built-in emulator couldn't keep up with maximum baudrate (my ST did not have a blitter chip). Salvaged it from a floppy disk a couple of years ago and put it on gh: https://github.com/remvee/st-tty

Re:Linux Bash vs. Windows PowerShell on Sunday April 12, 2020 @10:31AM (#22848477)
@vedipen, thera's a typo in bash "if" example, an if-block is closed with "fi".

edit: "if" example also misses a semicolon before "then".

Re:Using an Atari ST as Unix/Linux Terminal on Sunday May 19, 2019 @04:45PM (#19955411)
Aaah, those were the days.. I went from an ST to Slackware on a 386, hooked them up using the serial port and wrote my own terminal emulator because whatever emulator I could get my hands on could not keep up with the maximum baudrate; https://github.com/remvee/st-tty
The IRC gateway to Slack (not on by default) makes it a lot more bearable.
