I was only able to itemize for the first 5 years. After that, standard deduction ever since.
Re:Steam In-Home Streaming on Wednesday May 21, 2014 @05:18PM (#7780849)
Tried it a couple of months ago, and it ran like ass. Could be due to older hardware? Serving PC is core 2 duo 6850, and htpc it was playing on is core 2 duo 6400. Wired fast ethernet connection.
Doesn't that piss you off that those types of classes are not around anymore? I'm a bit older, so our machine shop was all manual WW2 surplus lathes and mills. Our well equipped woodshop had a teacher with requisite missing digits.
I don't know if they kind of back slid over the years, But what you learned in high school sound similar to what I did in high school in the late 70s. I used to love playing with the radio shack electronic experimenters kit with spring terminals and color coded wires too!
This. You never know what could come back to bite you. You can apply for a job, and one thing you said years ago doesn't agree with who is hiring. Some crazy bastard becomes a cop and decides to look you up on facebook when he is back in his car writing a ticket, turns out he has a thing against Jews (Godwin'ing!). Once the info is stored, there is no getting rid of it. Best not to store it to begin with.

I am not sure if this is true, but from what I understand, once your time is up, the files are still there, but they are read only.
Re:The Diet Fix on Thursday February 27, 2014 @03:15PM (#7314699)
Was a bit concerned with weight until I plateaued. Now I realize I am in a lot better shape, including blood sugar and lipids, even though I am stuck at this weight. I keep up the exercise and don't worry about the waistline so much. It is funny when I workout though. All these skinny people around the gym not sweating at all. If you don't sweat, I don't see why they bother.

Bentham is still around, but sadly mute on the topic. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Bentham#Death_and_the_Au...

I'd say about tree fiddy.
Re:Dry Ice Bombs at LAX on Wednesday October 23, 2013 @11:57AM (#6599508)
I used to make crude dirty bombs (barf bombs) in grade school. Gallon milk jug with vinegar, baking soda, and oatmeal. (add corn for better looking barf) Mix, shake, and throw.
Re:Windows 8.1 now available on Thursday October 17, 2013 @11:43AM (#6566102)
They warned you about not being able to update when they released 8.1 preview.
Re:Windows 8.1 now available on Thursday October 17, 2013 @11:36AM (#6566053)
Tinfoil hat here. Isn't using a Microsoft account just like giving the NSA your credentials to your machine?
Re:See Your Folks on Wednesday October 16, 2013 @04:49PM (#6562085)
I am 52, and I do 27 miles each Saturday on a longboard. It takes around 2:20 to do it. When I am 70 I may not be on the longboard for those distances, but no problem on abike i'd bet.
Re:Health Insurance Marketplace, Affordable Care Act Live on Tuesday October 01, 2013 @11:57AM (#6476971)
Been borked all day for me, except for a short time I tried it at 5:30am.
Re:We Post Nothing About Our Daughter Online on Wednesday September 04, 2013 @05:02PM (#6330469)
That's my whole beef with the "underwater" thing. They seemed to think that house was worth the price they signed up to pay when they did it. Now those houses are not worth as much. Too bad, so sad. I think I should get congress to bail me out on buying a new car. It certainly is not worth as much as it was when I purchased it.
Re:We Post Nothing About Our Daughter Online on Wednesday September 04, 2013 @04:55PM (#6330419)
AOL is still around, and my sister still has, and uses (infrequently)and aol.com address. Though she would prefer I communicated via facebook.
My wife gets angry if I don't tip 20%, so a place with a built in tip that is less is a bonus for me.
Re:Google Chromecast on Wednesday July 24, 2013 @05:01PM (#6099063)
I don't get it. I have an HTPC, and I watch Youtube on it all the time. I will often pause what I am watching to look something up related to the video I am watching. I don't have a personal phone as I get by fine with my work phone. It's a blackberry, so not compatible anyway. Also, when watching TV, its with the family, and we all are interested in what we look up. As far as I know, this only does some video, and doesn't send web pages to the screen. Yes, it's $35, but it's pretty limited from what I can see.
Re:DARPA and Boston Dynamics unveil a new humanoid robot on Friday July 12, 2013 @01:39PM (#6033877)

[Dick Jones directs Kinney to threaten ED-209. Kinney points a gun at the robot.]
ED-209: Please put down your weapon. You have 20 seconds to comply.
Dick Jones: I think you'd better do what he says, Mr. Kinney.
[Alarmed, Kinney quickly tosses the gun away. ED-209 steps forward and growls menacingly.]
ED-209: You now have 15 seconds to comply. You are in direct violation of Penal Code 1.13, Section 9.
[Everyone in the room panics; Kinney tries to hide among them, but is pushed back into open range]
ED-209: You have 5 seconds to comply. 4. 3. 2. 1. I am now authorized to use physical force.
I'm sure the NSA can hardly wait for XBone's to start showing up in people's houses. "The telescreen recieved and transmitted simultaneously. Any sound Winston made, above the level of a very low whisper, would be picked up by it; moreover, so long as he remained within the field of vision which the metal plaque commanded, he could be seen as well as heard. There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment. How often, or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time. But at any rate they could plug in your wire whenever the wanted to. You had to live- did live, from habit that became instinct- in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinized." -1984, Book 1, Chapter One, George Orwell
Do they have any rules for this that disallow doped riders? I would almost guess that would be like turbo-charging or water injection.
Re:The mystery of Google+ on Wednesday July 10, 2013 @01:03PM (#6021128)
It's no mystery. Google creeps people out. I am one of them. I read his comments on Google plus, but you have to be on Google + to respond. Seems self limiting if you are trying to find out why people don't use it. Facebook is at least as creepy, but for some reason, people don't seem to care. Twitter, for the most part, doesn't seem creepy. If I was to be on any of those 3, it would probably be twitter, though I don't see any reason to use it, so I don't.
