Current tools test competitive coding skills which are used only 1% in real jobs. How about testing on skills that really matter? Basicana maybe a better way to hire.

I thought MQTT was much better than XMPP.

I like the idea of WikiTribune but involving real journalists in an organization can be very slow and could cover only a small amount of news. It'd be a better idea to rank existing news articles on the basis of their truthfulness by allowing community members to point out fake/biased parts of it or good/objective parts of an article. It'd be a little slower for the reader to consume the news...

Cool stuff. I'd have liked to see a signup box to leave my email.
I'd have liked to see modern things like nunjucks and marko in this comparison list.
The problem with HTTP is that it drains 11 times more battery on a mobile phone than something like MQTT.
What is the underlying protocol that Ruma uses for communication? Is it HTTP, XMPP or something else?

They're open source and seems like a serious alternative to Firebase/Parse. Also, they full support NPM unlike Meteor. Can they be considered as primary interface for backend and for the APIs?
I recently quit Facebook and felt like I'm free(with my time). It is interesting to note that after you order "deletion" your account will remain for 14 days and you could come back. It is like 2 weeks notice period (before quitting the job) which is a standard in united states. I'd still keep using WhatsApp as long as it stays utilitarian and lets me communicate with my people.
It entirely depends on yourself and the type of work you can get. If you're an extroverted type, working in consulting may be a good experience. If you're highly creative but introverted type, you may not enjoy dealing with your client as much. If you're service oriented, you'd enjoy working with a client. If you're product oriented, you may prefer working on purely software/tech side of things!
Looks like people here haven't examined MBTI. Your personality may not be fixed but it takes up to 2 years to change it. 16personalities.com is a good way to test your personality as being one of the 16 types. It takes 10 mins.

I guess it's time to do away with the web (as it is) and build something entirely 'ephemeral' without that heavy HTTP protocol and 'web pages'. The new thing should be real-time by default and work across web/mobile. Ephemerality is the best way to protect privacy and real-time is the best way to create an amazing experience!
There will always be "unintelligent" crash on the way to perfect intelligence. These crashes are the real reason for all human fear today.
One solution to this problem is making "flipped classroom" a mandatory at all the schools.i.e. students go thru lectures/videos at home and do homework collaboratively in the Classroom. The Real world is more collaborative compared to our schools. Flipped Classroom is proven to increase scores as well. Question: What efforts are you willing to put in making this happen?
Key question is WHY did you take up this job in the first place? Do you really believe in the mission of this company or just the CTO title and a lucrative pay attracted you here. If you truly believe in the mission of the company, you're doing the right thing by taking all crap and making progress towards end goals. You are probably not coding because your time is better spent doing what you're doing now. Will you make more difference to the world if you went back to the coding role?

Ask HN: What is the one thing which will improve the quality of your life significantly?
This is nothing new to someone in India. We've always been this radical.. now and forever. =)

I'm looking to recognize merchandise in a retail store using a mobile app. It's an interesting problem.
