Re:Taking PHP Seriously on Friday October 14, 2016 @01:46AM (#12706344)
We are mostly (95%) a PHP company but going by trends; we did some projects in Python, NodeJS and Rails a few years ago.

Now I look back; I see the projects which have technical debt were flawed in design and did not get maintenance they needed. Most of them did not get traction to the point where scalability issue came into the picture.

So this year, we started moving that 5 % non-PHP projects to PHP counterparts. Again, we are miles away from any real-world scalability issue, but at least we are now able to maintain projects as we have a large PHP team.

At a small to mid-size organization level, it is more important to use one language for all projects.

I believe technical debt is not related to the choice of language but anticipating direction a project might take and picking up right design patterns to support that.

Which programming language is better is a highly overrated question!

I wish I had learned this few year ago.

Re:DO Not CLOSE THE ISSUE ASSHOLE on Saturday April 02, 2016 @01:45PM (#11412423)
Respect to you man!

I maintain some open source projects and I do make mistakes sometimes. But if anyone uses foul language, I simply do not respond to them.

Amazing!

I am wondering how much extra time it will take for 3D printing as we add support for 10 minute time interval, 1 minute interval and then seconds (extra set of digits HH:MM:SS).

Also will it be practically possible to have second-level granularity?

Ask HN: What do you think about Intern JS testing framework/stack?

I am new to unit testing as well as functional testing. In functional testing, we needed - cross-browser testing with chrome/firefox and IE, AJAX tests, file upload test.We started with selenium which seemed to have all features but the JAVA and complicated setup turned off our PHP & JavaScript team. So at that point I started exploring JS-based testing solutions.I came across many...

I am aware Magento powers big sites and some of them are so big and complex that its unimaginable to run them on WooCommerce.

What is surprising is that WooCommerce is not entire project but just a WordPress plugin!

I think this is quite a big achievement for a plugin.

This twitter accout - https://twitter.com/RussiaMinInter

Looks like created 1 hour ago, only to spread rumor.

Before Snowden tweet, there were only 2 tweets on that account.

We spent time juggling between em and px before but from few months we are using "rem" unit.

It works nicely as we are also using font-icons everywhere.

Re:Sold just got acquired by Dropbox and closed their company on Tuesday November 05, 2013 @05:27AM (#6674326)
I am also wondering. Sold and dropbox don't look related to each other at all!

It still asks for invitation code. I think its not fully open yet!
Re:Wordpress.com serves 70k requests/second using Nginx on Thursday September 27, 2012 @04:10AM (#4579825)
Thanks Jacques. Author of that updated config post on rtCamp.com here.

I really think Nginx in still underestimated by large. Most article handles rewrite in nginx based on their Apache knowledge.

Nginx's try_files is magical. So does maps{..} section.

Using Nginx map, you can server static files in WordPress-multisite without PHP (much better than X-SendFile or X-Accelredirection). On large wordpress-multisite network, this can really increase Nginx's capacity by multifold.
