> They weren’t really post scarcity. They never explained how they’re not in a constant state of rioting when a weird government/military decides what everyone can have or do.

Well, post-scarcity really just means that ordinary citizens have free access to replicators (matter-energy converters).

So the closest example (and the only one I can think of where you see civilian Earth, outside of SF Academy / SF HQ or a time travel episode), is probably the double episode in DS9 where the changelings reach earth and there's a false flag event by a corrupt Admiral that causes a momentary power outage and a planetwide lockdown for a few days. I believe it's meant as a 9/11 allegory -- the homeland is attacked and suddenly everyone WANTS a police state, or at least is willing to go along with it, and only the courageous honorable military officers are there to stop the corrupt ones, all the civilians are frightened into compliance.

But post-scarcity? That just means when the security officers aren't around, people can wander into Joseph Sisko's restaurant and eat as much as they want for free, and Joseph Sisko can run his restaurant with as much food supply/ingredients and kitchen equipment as he wants for free, and every gets as much clothing as they want for free, etc. When Earth isn't on lockdown, that's the implication, everyone has as much material goods as they want for free, that's post-scarcity and the implication is they have it.

Post-scarcity doesn't mean infinite resources, or that you can have whatever you want, not everyone gets free land/space on which to build their home, for example. If that's your definition of post-scarcity then I guess at least the Q Continuum has it! :)

You don't have to have an absolute monopoly. Microsoft was punished for anti-competitive actions in the 90s when it bundled its Internet Explorer browser into Windows.

Even though other browsers existed, like Netscape Navigator etc, Microsoft was still found guilty of violating the Sherman Anti-Trust Act and guilty of anti-competitive action, both in the US and elsewhere.

Microsoft was forced to create a version of Windows without IE bundled, and other corrective actions.

safereddit.com also broken

eddrit.com also broken

but r.naa.gg still works! (not for long though, probably, since Reddit admins read HN)

what is SI?
Exactly. As the saying goes, if one side says it's raining and the other side says it's not, it's not the job of the journalist to report both. It's the job of the journalist to look out the fucking window to see if it's really raining or not.

Show HN: Building a new game everyday with AI. Day #106 Zombie Survival Training

https://gamevibe.us/106-zombie-survival-training

I'm using AI (mostly Claude) to create/publish a new video game every dayThis is day 106, and my first stab at the zombie/survival genre. Most of the games I build with just a few prompts, but this one I used almost an entire 5-hour window on the $20/month pro subscription (in about an hour) with Opus 5 to get right with all the weapons and such. Then I go outside and touch grass for the next...

If you're curious, this is the single prompt used to build the game with Claude Sonnet 5.0 on Medium:

> Create game 197 "Jungle" based on the Chinese board game "dou shou qi". Since it's a board game it can use a regular controller (doesn't need websockets), but please include scoring (backend authoritative/anticheat) and sound effects (ui/lib/sfx.ts)

I did later have a second prompt but it was just to renumber the game to make it ready for publishing, after playtesting and finding no issues. And of course a lot of the infrastructure (including the sound effects library) was built in previous sessions.

If you have any questions, lay 'em on me!

Show HN: Daily vibe-coding video games, day 87: Jungle Chess

https://gamevibe.us/87-jungle-chess

87 days of making a new video game with Cursor and Claude AI, online free to play with no download required and high scores enabled. HTML5/Canvas/Websockets. Happy to answer questions! I can't believe I'm still going with this after almost 3 months, but I'm still having fun!Today's game is a Chinese version of chess called "Jungle" or "Dou Shou Qi", it's basically chess with animals. The...

For complex 3d graphics, if you want to make a good game with lots of features, you need to use a real game engine like Unity or at the very least if you want to do it in a browser use a library like three.js (the games I make are far simpler so I don't use many libraries)

Once you have the project setup, with version control setup, then you can start agentic development. Claude is the best in the business right now (imo), that could change rapidly though

A monopoly-style board game vs 3 AI opponents. With common stock symbols/tickers for the properties.

This project started over 2 months ago and I'm still going! Happy to answer questions, would love any feedback, whatever you got I wanna hear it!

Show HN: Daily vibe-coding video games, day 45: "Elementary"

https://gamevibe.us/45-elementary

I'm making and publishing a new web game every day, mostly with Claude, a little with Cursor. Little hobby project of mine I've been doing for about 6 weeks, happy to answer any questions!Today I made "Elementary" an original game for practicing the Periodic Table. It picks a random element and you have to guess which one it is

Re:SpaceX and OpenAI both filing for IPO the same week on Thursday May 21, 2026 @12:53PM (#48225756)
SpaceX released its prospectus Wednesday (will be ticket SPCX), OpenAI expected as soon as Friday
I did share the prompt, it's right below the game :) I do the same for most of the games I build (one each day). Some of the games take a lot of prompts to fix/adjust things, but most require only a single prompt -- this one (Tower Defense) required just 1 sentence, a few words, that's it

As for the language, the whole application is set up with c#/.net on the backend and React/vite/js on the frontend so each game is built with that in mind. No gaming engines or physics libraries or anything, Claude handwrites all of it.

Show HN: Daily vibe-coding video games, day 33: Tower Defense (single prompt)

https://gamevibe.us/33-tower-defense

I'm using AI (mostly Claude) to create/publish a new video game every dayThis is day 33, first stab at the tower defense genre. Most of the games (including this one) I build with a single prompt. Rarely, a couple extra prompts are needed for bug fixes or to tweak the physics/UI. Extremely rarely, the AI has difficulty making the game work right (usually drawing it) and it takes a dozen or...

First state in the nation to do it (a few others are trying), a few days ago the Hawaii legislature passed, and today the Governor signed, a bill saying that CORPORATIONS DO NOT HAVE THE POWER TO BUY POLITICAL ADS

This takes PAC and SuperPAC money out of politics (at least in Hawaii) and gets around the 2010 Supreme Court ruling Citizens United vs FEC.

Same, I absolutely refuse to engage with Persona in any way.
Yes, I really think the data center will consume that much power because that's the design

Yes, I really think that it will get built, because the people building data centers are throwing money/favors at politicians to get them approved

Show HN: Vibe-coding video games with Claude (Day 30: Chess)

https://gamevibe.us/30-chess

Making a new video game every single day. Today's game is Chess. Besides fixing a few build errors, the entire game was built in a single prompt. And amazingly, the computer opponent is pretty hard! I'm not a pro by any means but I beat all my friends, and I found this AI opponent rather difficult.Happy to answer any questions

The data center project is by Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary and will consume 9GW, more power than the entire State of Utah currently consumes
