16 minutes into Obama's "Fireside Hangout", the topic of patent reform is introduced. Watch for yourself.

Thanks. I actually thought there was a bug. The paywall isn't obvious.

Turkey doesn't fluoridate their water. Just sayin'. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fluoridation_by_country

Since you're OK with poking fun at other people's software, I'll point out that your left margin vanishes at 990px viewport, and readers need the left-right scrollbar to read below 750px viewports. Not a great reading experience (in Safari 6 on Lion). Cheers!

"But Android is such an open platform! /QQ" Meanwhile, my iPad 2 just asked me if I wanted to upgrade to iOS6. It did it over wifi, and the whole thing took maybe half an hour.

Obviously, this is because PHP doesn't scale.

It looks like we 404'd the page.

Google wants you to think Android's open. It's not.

Opera excludes itself, by making its software difficult for developers to support. Most people have never even heard of Opera. So why should developers bother? Where's the value?
Re:GIMP is Now a Self-Contained Native App for Mac OS X on Thursday August 30, 2012 @05:37AM (#4453794)
Do you guys remember how unusable the previous version was? I mean, this feels like splitting hairs compared to that.
Re:GIMP is Now a Self-Contained Native App for Mac OS X on Thursday August 30, 2012 @05:34AM (#4453788)
I agree that they should change this, but I don't find it offensive, because I know that the GIMP project has been around since it was acceptable to get a cup of coffee while your app loads. I'm just saying, that they've got a lot of legacy code. I'm just happy that it works, for now.

The toolbox window is also set to 'always on top'. It's not a huge deal, compared to the x11 version though. I just open another virtual desktop for it in Lion.
Re:Zynga creative chief quits on Wednesday August 29, 2012 @06:12AM (#4447819)
Thanks for that! I was somewhat interested, but not enough to subscribe to WSJ.

Re:Sexual Harassment at DefCon (and Other Hacker Cons) on Wednesday August 15, 2012 @05:11PM (#4388247)
I'd like to see some evidence before believing such a tale. If such punch cards did exist, then I'm sure that there would be a picture of one online. In other words: Screenshot, or it didn't happen.
Re:Sexual Harassment at DefCon (and Other Hacker Cons) on Wednesday August 15, 2012 @04:59PM (#4388197)
No, what I am saying is this is how drunk people act, and if one finds it too offensive, then the logical conclusion is to remove one's self from the equation, rather than demanding that the world change. You can't boil the ocean.
Re:Sexual Harassment at DefCon (and Other Hacker Cons) on Wednesday August 15, 2012 @03:35PM (#4387761)
"It sounds like a lot of this stuff happens at bars during events, not at the events themselves. How common is this behavior at bars in general, independent from a hacker con?"

This. Very much this. The formula is simple: Get a bunch of people drunk, and the lecherous ones will come out of the woodwork. This is not a problem unique to any particular field. In fact, I would go as far as to say this is a non-problem. If you can't deal with it, then stop choosing to hang out in bars.

Often, it is the women who cry the loudest, that crave and seek out the kind of negative attention described here, so that they can boast about their own attractiveness to other females, while pretending to be disgusted.

There are many more severe forms of oppression, that deserve our attention more than this.

This number would be a lot larger, were it not for Comcast (and probably others) bundling Cable TV service in with their Internet packages, for considerably less money than you can get Internet alone. I don't know if they're inflating their numbers to show their investors or what, but I can't wait for Google fiber. Even though I don't really trust Google anymore, they're the lesser evil here.
I thought that Yahoo was only used by the elderly.

They've unified their UI by making it suck everywhere. I'm still upset over the Xbox UI change. It's just terrible.
This is pretty clever. Were you trying to code golf, or did that just sortof happen?
