I've been thinking how well a consensus of people can do versus a randomized opponent, and also what strategy the consensus will play, so I created a Chess Game on Twitter with this spirit.

Rules:

People on Twitter play as White and have 4 top engine moves to choose from, given in random order. Most upvoted move is played.

Stockfish plays as Black and randomly selects a move from its top 4 choices.

Moves choices for both are generated using Stockfish 16 on depth 21.

Voting for a single move lasts 24h.

Currently, it's move number 4 and the game so far is: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 d6

Vote for move number 4 here: https://twitter.com/ChessvisionAI/status/1679280588207927300

https://ebook.chessvision.ai/ has just reached 10k users and that's a huge milestone.

It was the first product with premium features I launched and it really boosted my confidence that Chessvision.ai can be much more than just a simple scanning tool. I'm really happy that so many people find value in it and constantly talk to me about new features and improvements that we together can bring to life.

I thought that reaching this 10k milestone is a good time to reflect a bit and write down where and how it started, what features were added in the process, and what's the plan for the feature, so I wrote the blog post: https://chessvision.ai/blog/ebook-reader-reaches-10k-users

They're doing that from what I heard, at least to some degree, and similarly to my chess algorithms, they also search for positional themes.

The app uses computer vision and machine learning to automatically analyze chess videos and detects various concepts and themes they contain so that you can search the videos by these concepts. The search results point to the exact timestamps within the videos corresponding to the search so that you can quickly watch what you want. You can search the videos by openings and variations, game phases, endgame types, the openness of the position, pawn structures, and various themes like opposite side casting, different kinds of sacrifices, connected passed pawns, etc. You can combine the filters however you want.

The current version has analyzed just over 100 videos from YouTube. If people like the idea, I plan to expand to all chess videos on YouTube and analyze new videos as soon as they are published. It's also possible to analyze videos from other sources, maybe from Twitch, or chess platforms with video courses.

I'm curious, what do you think about it? It was something that I've been thinking for a while and just recently was able to focus 100% on it - and I had an awesome time building it.

Ask me anything if you have any questions about deployment or tech stack - I'd love to help as I had to make several decisions that I saw people constantly asking about how to deploy ML model for prediction and choices I made might help.

The app is eBook Reader for chess ebooks specifically. It makes any PDF chess ebook interactive in that sense that once a book is analyzed by the app, you can double-click on any chess diagram in the book and it will show up the analysis board where you can make your moves, turn the engine on/off, see top 5 computer lines which most often contains lines in the book. Every book is only analyzed once, the next time you open it, you can interact with it immediately. Also, the app searches for chess games containing positions on the diagrams so you can explore them.

I used a custom-made computer vision algorithm to first find the diagrams in PDF document and then use a convolutional neural network to classify individual squares in a diagram into corresponding classes (the type of chess piece, color, empty square). I’m using PyTorch for the machine learning part, both training and prediction, mainly because of its API I really like and the ease to write custom data transforms. All files are analyzed by a separated background service using task queues which is crucial to make the rest of the app lightweight. For the deployment, I used Google App Engine. I’ve seen many suggesting SageMaker for that purpose, but I personally find it less intuitive to use than GAE. However, I might be biased because of my experience with GAE.

I tried to locate the issue and think I found it. I updated the extension to version 0.0.2. Could you please check if the new version helps with the issue you had?
Interesting, does it happen every time you try it or just sometimes?
I understand your concerns and would like to clarify any potential doubts. The client app (the extension itself) has only currentTab permission which means that it has access only the tab where user opened the extension and it takes a screenshot only when a user explicitly clicks Scan button. The source code of the extension is completely public - everyone can unpack it and verify that indeed it does exactly that. So this actually reduces to the same functionality as for example using any photo app with cloud processing - i.e. you take the photo/screenshot explicitly and no other information is sent to the server.
If I understand correctly (watched the video) you start from the initial position and track moves that are made in order to update the position to reflect the move, is this correct?
Server side
It displays lichess board analysis as iframe http://lichess.org/analysis/ and this board uses stockfish by default.
