Re:GPT-5.6 Sol can beat Factorio on peaceful mode on Saturday October 31, 2026 @04:17PM (#50319711)
He is not talking about stats.

When you start a new game in Factorio, if you never played it, you can’t know how much of each resource you’ll have to extract and neither how much of an item you’ll need to produce.

I know it’s easy to forgot after thousands hours of playtime, but the game starts with your character having to manually mine coal one by one.

Re:We Won't "Just Hang Out" on Friday October 30, 2026 @03:32AM (#50300804)
This argument also seems totally american lifestyle centered where even your hobbies needs to be productive.

My brother installed Bazzite just for the fun and he is learning things about the computer and he just seems to be curious. That's totally improductive for him : he is actually trying to launch a business around flowers delivery, and not your typical uber-like startup. He is buying a truck and will work for its previous clients. But still, he is learning linux because that looks cool. He is also trying to learn piano.

Me ? If I didnt have to work in an AI utopia, I'd go on the skatepark everyday doing rollerblading tricks, socializing and learning from other rollerbladers. There is nothing less productive than rollerblading, it's not even a practical mean of transportation. It's just fun and humans love to socialize around fun things.

I don't think we'll ever get to this AI utopia. I think we are either going full cyberpunk or extinct by our own. But would it happen, I'm not sure I'd be on tiktok watching AI slop all the day.

I'd even go as far as saying that without work, the humans would be able to remove the social mask that working involves and that it would make use more human.

Re:Two high-speed trains collide near Toledo, Spain on Thursday October 29, 2026 @02:43AM (#50285297)
> Yesterday's accident was a protocol tragedy, someone made a terrible mistake, and sadly those things happen, everywhere.

IDK where you live but no, in Europe, it virtually never happens.

I will speak for France but the latest “big/mediatic” accidents were two (probably) Russian sabotages with not a lot of victims.

Then back to 2015 in Eckwersheim where a test train derailed on track trial (dramatic but no commercial passengers and the train was overspeeding voluntarily for the trial, even if it was an error).

Other than that we need to get back to 2013 to find the Brétigny-sur-Orge derailment.

Other accidents regularly happen but except from Bretigny derailment, I don’t remember passengers being killed in the last decades.

No one ever died as a commercial passenger of a TGV and hundreds are running at 320km/h every day since half a century. A few conductors died from a collision even that, in 45 years of service, is anecdotal (from a safety perspective, of course not for the victims).

So, no, Spain does seem to have a big issue.

I don’t agree. I tried the $20 Claude Plan and was able to reach the 5 hour limit in maybe one prompt.

Re:Android apps running native on macOS on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @04:13AM (#50177533)
> What do they actually do instead?

They do the same shit as every other OS : files with a more or less random place in the home folder.

So it's more akin to linux where removing a package lets the garbage in the home dir. On Windows it's not THAT MUCH better, it's just that removing app can be so stupidly complex that the concept of uninstaller had to be created, and it happens that some uninstallers are also helping to remove user files.

Of the three, it's the same shit, it just happens that in Windows it's so shitty that the hack we found to circumvent (the uninstallers are fucking executables with logic to remove another executable, that's stupid) made the situation less shitty.

MacOS is regarded as shit because they DID think about a nice way to sore and expose an application (a Mac OS program is just a folder named "MyApp.app" in the /Applications folder containing all the binaries and assets) but they didn't really care about where to store the application data (in fact it exists but it's not enforced and never cleaned).

Re:Voxtral 3 on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @02:09AM (#50176681)
It have nothing to do with socialism. The current situation is due to the doctors lobbying for a restricted number of students. This have been in place since 1971 and have now been removed. But training one doctor requires time (8 to 10 years) and … doctors, that we don’t have enough, so we are going to be in the shit for at least another decade.

But it have nothing to do with the healthcare system, just with cupidity.

Re:Voxtral 3 on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @02:05AM (#50176661)
Yes, dermatologist is maybe the worst example for this :D

Maybe side by side with endocrinologists now they are required to prescribe refundable aGLP-1.

Re:Android apps running native on macOS on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @03:08AM (#50162373)
I mean, this file hierarchy is already so integrated into the OS that it wouldn’t have been difficult to circumvent that by allowing per-user folders in .app folders with the good ACLs by default.

Mostly like a mini home folder in each app.

That would have been an interesting decision, quite hacky maybe, but incredibly ergonomic. And that would have changed one of the biggest flaws of Mac OS into one of its biggest strengths.

Same in french.
If you are still interested in the franchise and in video games, what I can tell you is that the Zelda franchise ages like good wine.

In other words : if you have good memories of your experiences with those games, do yourself the favor of playing the other titles, they are equally good.

I played most Zelda games of the last 30 years.

To the exception of TOTK, I _never_ noticed any link (hehe) between different titles. I know there are some references, but I never catch them.

Even Majora's Mask, which is an official follow up occurring months after Ocarina of Time have a totally different story to tell that don't even try to continue the OoT story and is more just another completely independent story barely in the same universe.

I love the Zelda games, I consider myself a fan. But they are just that : good games. Each of those games do have interesting stories to tell, interesting universes to visit, but the overall "franchise" lore is totally uninteresting.

And honestly I don't think it's something bad, it means each game is free to go where it wants, and every game is free to have an universe as rich as it wants.

I see Zelda totally like I see mario : it's just universe codes, not a real lore. Nobody cares if Mario Galaxy happens before or after Mario 64 or Super Mario World. Zelda is the same for me. And that's cool.

I don’t have profits numbers but, as a customer, what I can tell you is that the large majority of those supermarkets are doing fine. They are renovated like brand new every couple years, they pop everywhere, they have money to innovate (E.Leclerc for example now have automated drive-throughs where your groceries arrive to you on a conveyor belt, serving dozens of clients in parallel directly to their car).

We also have a struggling supermarket chain (Auchan) and I assure you you can tell just by entering the supermarket that there isn’t a money issue.

Thin margin ? Sure, probably. But if there is enough money to build and develop brand new factorio-like contraptions, I’m sure they can handle fridge controllers well.

And yup, I worked for one of those three actors in their tech department and they are as much as tech-savvy than the other startup. And they have the same tech culture as your favorite startup : no real money issue and not a lot of care given as long as it is shipped.

Man if you don’t see the issues with what the author enumerated to the point of calling him “miserable”, I’m really sorry for you. I guess you lacked love in your life somehow.
IDK what happened today but I used GLM-5.3 as usual from Ollama cloud and it was so fast it generated entire documents like instantly.

The reasoning and the result document were done after less than 1 or 2 seconds.

Have Ollama suddenly bought GPU capacity?

Re:Meta and Microsoft Limit Employee Use of Claude AI Tools on Thursday October 08, 2026 @01:27AM (#50002062)
Most of the times, the bottleneck is mainly the company’s legacy. People are using AI on an old, rigid codebase and are still following processes and team rituals dating back from before the IA.
Re:All I wanted was a custom domain email on Monday October 05, 2026 @03:38AM (#49961792)
Too bad the author didn't check Fastmail. It checks all the boxes and on top of that its, imho, the best finished product for mail / cal / contacts and by far.

It may even be my favorite tech product at all. Should I be able to pay for more storage space for the drive (options are very limited), it would approach the perfection.

Re:Pirating the Pirates on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @03:35AM (#49889533)
> There's an unfathomable number of games that were released on the Commodore 64, Amiga, Atari ST, and most famously DOS that were made by one or two people, self-published, and have now completely fallen into obscurity to a point where it's not 100% clear who owns the copyright and who to give money even if you wanted to, which has led to the "probably-illegal-but-not-really-enforced" term of "Abandonware".

Mostly unrelated but if you are looking for this "effervescence" in modern times, don't hesitate to take a look at Pico8 games and Ich.io.

On Pico 8, everything is free (except the one time pico 8 licence).

On Itch.io I bought a ridiculous 400 games pack for a few dollars a few years back.

You have to dig a little but I found more gems in both those libraries than I expected.

Archive.org is full of copyrighted software without known authors. I know it because i'v found a lot of Pocket PC & Palm software from studios/companies that don't even exist anymore.

It's not ideal but it's better than losing it.

> Apple’s always on watch has a declared 15 second buffer for live audio, and a worse scenario of summarizing your conversations for later

Even if you trust them, maybe as an user you can be ok with that. As a non-user who will talk with people wearing Apple Watches, I disagree being recorded and my conversations with the watch owner summarized.

Where do I disagree for that ?

I’m not at ease in an airplane. I rarely fly but i actually like it, but I’m really anxious.

What helps me is always taking a seat near the wings. First that’s where the plane moves the less. And moreover, it’s pretty reassuring watching them supporting the plane in their great stability, they always move way slower than the cabin.

Nope, that's my point, on your kindle, the screen is a Kaleido 3, which is a black&white+lcd layer: https://www.reddit.com/r/eink/comments/1i8e26x/seriously_how...

Re:Hugging Face is billing OpenAI $100M for hacking it on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @03:15PM (#49717423)
Maybe because all the AI actors, probably including Hugging Face, want to push the narrative that AI companies aren’t responsible for what their agents are doing.

I think our societies will have to settle on this.
