100% exactly. Cookies are device and moment specific. Whereas a user account can easily save and transport the saved experience/setting anywhere the user wants to access them.
Ha! Brilliant landing page! And very clever marketing. Good job.
Very cool! I just ran my site through it http://beta.brandkoop.com/instantProfiler/result/M4muX7r8Atm...

I do wish it gave me some prompts to do something actionable. Like, "Hey, looks like you could be a little more sophisticated. Why not try..." Or ways to change the balance of my "Website Values" if I want or need to. Your site gives interesting insight nonetheless — I like it.

I really like the concept. I know there are other sites that do it too, but I like the simplicity of your site. One comment, the white text can be hard to read with the background image you're using — I like it as a textural element, but maybe it doesn't need to underlay the story.

It's a great idea and I realize this is probably your first pass at it. The interface, after you get a results set, is a bit challenging to use — I would definitely use a tool like this a lot if you develop a kick-ass UI around it too!
Re:Show HN: Upda (beta) – Find places to work near you on Saturday July 11, 2015 @04:27PM (#9871424)
Ha! At first I thought it was going to be a job site...took a sec to figure out that you meant "a place to sit your butt down with your laptop and work." :-)
Nice work! Thought, for me, it would probably just make me anxious as I watch the minutes and seconds tick away...sort of like watching the clock in school, the more you look at it the slower time seems to go and the more distracted by time you become. That's just me — I'm sure this will be a good motivator for others.

I saw Typeform about a week ago. Looks pretty slick. Planning on trying that at some point too.

Totally agree that the handholding nature of it could be really powerful as a tutorial, especially in user onboarding.

Re:Show HN: I finally launched my new weather app on Thursday July 02, 2015 @01:39PM (#9820375)
Seems like it would be better as a free app and you make money if I buy the t-shirt (or whatever) through the app. Not sure many be willing to plunk down .99cents when there are so many other, great free weather apps. Neat concept none the less.
Too funny. I work with a lot of clients who get hung up on finding the perfect name before they can get going on their project. My advice is to come up with a "working name" you can live with — don't over think it, you can always change it later. Names you think are stupid at first often mature in your mind as you're working on the product...you'd be surprised how often a working name grows on a client and becomes the name of the product.
Re:Show HN: Kwak, a real-time discussion platform on Wednesday July 01, 2015 @05:38PM (#9815378)
Very nice start! Dope logo.

Good idea to go MVP and get it out in the world and get some learning going. Of course the down side to MVCs is the user doesn't know it's MVC — some comments might reflect that ;)

Looking forward to seeing where you take this IRC-esq revival!

I have a little project I'm working on right now that might be a good fit to test on. I'll keep you posted if I integrate QnA.

I'll also share it with a UX group I meetup with.

Re:Show HN: Chat like Question and Answers on Tuesday June 30, 2015 @10:33PM (#9809765)
Oh man, I really like this!

(I'm assuming it would be use for forms...)

Have you tested it with any forms out in the real world yet? I'd be curious to see some conversion data comparing a QnA style form to a traditional one. My guess is this works best for shortish forms.

Re:Ask HN: Should I put display ads on my site? on Tuesday June 30, 2015 @11:19AM (#9805870)
Yes, makes total sense.

In my case, my pages are the equivalent of Bob's, they are at the end of the link referral line. Users create content on my site and link to it from their sites. If it were blog or article type content, I would think there's no issue putting ads on the content, but seeing how my site is a web tool/app, it seems like more of a gray area. There's risk I'll piss off my users. I'm trying to decide if it's even worth going down that road.

Re:Ask HN: Should I put display ads on my site? on Monday June 29, 2015 @01:08PM (#9799372)
Good insight. I like the idea of removing ads from pages that don't get clicks.

My biggest concern is, my users are the ones generating the content. I want to be sensitive to that, but at the same time would like to generate some revenue I can put back into things like upgrading hosting from VPS to AWS, building new features, etc.

Ask HN: Should I put display ads on my site?

I'm in the process of overhauling a free web tool that also displays user generated content. I never incorporated ads in the old site and am considering putting them in the new site on pages that publicly display user's content. I'll probably build a freemium model in the future (ad-free, more features, etc.)Is this the right time for me to start incorporating ads?

Re:Ask HN: What do you think of the anti-CSS debate? on Monday June 29, 2015 @01:00AM (#9796500)
As someone who writes CSS frameworks for a living, I don't know if I could ever give up the powerful globalness of the "c" (cascading.) Though, I do find myself writing more and more inline styles for elements that are specific to a block or page to avoid bloating the framework. I'm thinking a blended approach is in my future.
Do you have a demo video or anything that shows a bit more about what Hibiki does?
Nice start! What do you think about letting the users adjust the center point? Would be cool to be able to drag and drop the center point on another location. :-)
Re:Show HN: Phishing as a service on Saturday June 27, 2015 @09:03PM (#9792039)
Totally legit concern. Seems like it would be an option that a customer might want after they've used the service for a bit and built up a level of trust. Overall, great idea.
Re:Show HN: PushdUp User Submitted and Curated News on Saturday June 27, 2015 @08:37PM (#9791984)
Nice start. One thing to keep in mind is a great user interface is probably what's going to get people to use it and keep coming back. I'm mildly addicted to Flipboard largely because the interface it so brilliant and makes it super easy to consume or add my own content to.
Re:Show HN: Iconicomi.com for creative writers on Saturday June 27, 2015 @01:57PM (#9790950)
Very cool idea! I'd love to see some examples or be able to browse other people's stories — would be nice to make it more social that way.
