$599, 8 GB RAM, 256 GB, *No* Touch ID

$699, 8 GB RAM, 512 GB, Touch ID

Honestly pretty fantastic product and price.

This is clearly targeted towards education but I think I will happily replace by MacBook Air M1 with this :)

His wife is Austrian though, I would have hoped that adds a bit to his perspective.

Do you earn SF salaries in your country?
Re:M4 MacBook Pro on Wednesday October 30, 2024 @11:05AM (#41995763)
It seems they also update the base memory on MacBook Air:

> MacBook Air: The World’s Most Popular Laptop Now Starts at 16GB

> MacBook Air is the world’s most popular laptop, and with Apple Intelligence, it’s even better. Now, models with M2 and M3 double the starting memory to 16GB, while keeping the starting price at just $999 — a terrific value for the world’s best-selling laptop.

The value of the fund is now up to $63B. Here is the latest overview: https://www.nvpers.org/sites/default/files/2024-05/PERS-Inve...
Love the comments under the post :) For me it means no more notifications in Teams, as our organisation policy blocks all the useful workflow features.

The Hacker News BigQuery data makes this quite easy:

select * from `bigquery-public-data.hacker_news.full` where `by` = 'ilaksh' and type = 'comment' order by timestamp desc

EDIT: seems this is out of date

True! But it certainly started out as a hobby and still has that feel to it.

How the internet should be. A guy sharing his hobby, providing useful information.
Kind of crazy that they use Breath of the Wild even in the examples. Why can this be generated if not by obviously stealing Nintendo IP?
Re:I think GCP is better than AWS – by Fernando Villalba on Wednesday October 25, 2023 @04:10PM (#38017679)
Don't know enough about Vertex AI, SageMaker is great though. But on BigQuery v Redshift: Having used both over many years, BigQuery is the clear winner. It's a much better, much more modern product.

BigQuery is also a central part of GCP, with almost all services having integrations to it (PubSub, CloudSQL, Bigtable, etc). It also seems to get a lot of resources and is continuously improved. That is not the case for Redshift, which is not as important to AWS.

Re:Twitter has officially changed its logo to ‘X’ on Monday July 24, 2023 @10:33AM (#36848652)
Do you really have to wonder? I think it's one of his episodes, just like the purchase of Twitter itself, where the too quickly decides on something and pushes it through.
Re:Ask HN: Alternatives to The Economist Magazine? on Wednesday November 30, 2022 @08:11AM (#33800156)
I think the only real alternative is the FT. Yes, it's not a weekly but they have lots of in-depth reporting (and the Economist refers to itself as a newspaper anyway).
I would guess it's not just data engineering but a big part of the engineering org. Or why would you single out such a team?

In Germany, we call them "Kreuzberger Bügel", named after Berlin's Kreuzberg district, where the same design was first used. (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kreuzberger_Bügel)
Re:AWS Redshift Serverless on Tuesday November 30, 2021 @01:35PM (#29395687)
So basically BigQuery from AWS. Looks good on first sight, a bit late. Personally worked for a large org which has just moved from BigQuery from Redshift and I have to say that BigQuery is the much better product.
