I don’t see artists replacing all the images on their websites with Mist processed versions.

Their example Van Gogh images look okay as thumbnails but are really different from the originals when viewed larger.

Overall a neat project though.

I saw the same issue in Safari 5.1.7 on OS X 10.7.4. Nudging the colorpicker fixed it for me.

PS: I vote for keeping the cats :D

Not sure which pieces you're talking about. Code changes to various open source projects within OS X, iOS, and Xcode can be found here (and the referenced sites therein).

Not sure if technoweenie was trolling or not, but Homakov said on Twitter "That tattoo is kind of fake made with henna".

Re:Gigabit Internet for $80 on Monday February 27, 2012 @01:35AM (#3638005)
The price is actually ≈ $70 per month. From the article ...

Update: the initial version of this article mistakenly listed the price of Sonic's gigabit service at $79.95; it is actually $69.95.

That's amazing. Here I thought I was getting a bargain with 15Mbps SDSL for $25 per month (our mid-rise condo building in downtown San Jose, CA struck a deal with our ISP if some percentage of residents signed up).

>> Other stuff, like Preview, I don't use often enough to care about the load time, and I would probably configure it to exit when the last window closed.

Under Lion, that is (sort of) what Preview and TextExit do. When you close all open documents in Preview and then switch away from the app, the app will terminate.

When adding features to something, I tend to be a big fan of "when in Rome"[1]. If these were extensions to Python (or Ruby or JavaScript) then I would totally be for using '[' with arrays. As a C guy though, I would rather have seen them use '{' for NSArray and '[' for NSDictionary. Regardless, I'm glad to see this stuff added.

[1] http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/when_in_Rome,_do_as_the_Romans...

I'm glad to see these additions, but the syntax for an NSArray literal bugs me.

When I want an array literal in C, I'd write ...

  int foo[] = { 1, 2, 3, 4, 5};
... but in Objective-C, for an NSArray literal I'd write ...

  NSArray *bar = @[o1, o2, o3];
Why did they choose '[' over '{'? Oddly enough, NSDictionary uses '{'.

I feel like the syntax for an NSString literal is more natural (as a C developer).

  NSString *baz = @"look, an NSString literal";
  char szBaz[] = "look, a C string literal";

There's a brief writeup here ...

http://blog.graphicpeel.com/post/740928981/ios-icons-made-in...

... it's not the same guy, but the above blog post is the first time I remember seeing someone do iOS icons in pure CSS.

The whole thing is fun more than practical ... kind of like ASCII art for a new generation ;-)

Re:Jawbone Cancels All Pending Up Orders, Refunds Unhappy Owners on Thursday December 08, 2011 @06:36PM (#3331728)
I'm glad to see Jawbone taking customer satisfaction seriously, but I hope this doesn't negatively impact them moving the product category forward.

I've been using an Up for about a week now and really like it. Yes, the battery life is half of what they claim (I only got 5 days on a fresh charge, not 10). Yes, it is annoying that it doesn't use Bluetooth LE for data transfer. Those two negatives aside, it is IMHO a good first generation product.

Re:Codify: native coding environment for iPad on Wednesday October 26, 2011 @11:40PM (#3161525)
Played around with it a bit, very cool.

I would love to see iCloud support and a desktop version. It would be awesome to have something like the Processing IDE with a sketchbook that automatically syncs between my devices (e.g. my iPad and MacBook).

>> it's hardly discoverable without either hearing about >> it first, or being willing to press random keys to >> see what they do

I agree that the hotkey for it is not very discoverable, but the default layout for the Finder toolbar has a button for Quick Look (it's in his screenshot, the one that looks like an eyeball).

Re:If you're not famous, joining Twitter is painful on Saturday July 23, 2011 @01:47PM (#2797377)
Twitter is NOT about mindlessly collecting a vast number of followers ... unless you're a CEO trying to market your various companies.

Seriously folks, look at the author / submitter ...

"CEO of Flaptor, maker of IndexTank (indextank.com) Hounder (hounder.org) and Trendistic (trendistic.com) among other things."

... this is the blog of a CEO who is trying to build a reputation and / or brand awareness. Nothing wrong with that, but keep in mind the intent of the author when reading the OP.

"First, let's admit that part of what makes Twitter interesting is egos and follower counts. There is clearly a pecking order on Twitter that doesn't exist in other social networks. If you have 10k followers you can tell off some loser with only 500. When you join Twitter you are the bottom bitch."

I guess this is how folks with something to sell see Twitter. It's not how anyone else I know who uses Twitter socially (as opposed to as a marketing tool) see Twitter.

Re:Last.fm web site primary and failover down on Sunday July 17, 2011 @03:07PM (#2773929)
They should change the error message that shows up when people try to look at their music history ...

"There was an error connecting to your Library. A page refresh should fix this problem."

... if I didn't read Hacker News I'd be sitting there hitting refresh a bunch of times :D Perhaps something simple like "please try back later" and link to the original blog post.

Hope they get things resolved and CBS doesn't give them grief for the outage. I've got almost six years of listening history on Last.fm and would hate to see it go away.
