Re:If you love a website, back it up on Monday November 02, 2026 @11:54AM (#50339721)
I did actually. I took a whole day to go to each of my individual saved bookmarks and save the articles as pdf using edge reader mode, sometimes hunting down articles on the way back machine
Re:Nobel Prize in Physics goes to Francis Halzen on Tuesday October 06, 2026 @06:28AM (#49976547)
Just woke up this morning to this news. Thank God. Today is a good day.
The dot com boom was a bubble. Doesn't mean that the underlying web technology that powered it was bad or worthless. But the valuations definitely were. AI, in its current form, will be around for a long time, maybe even as ubiquitous as the internet is today, a few decades from now. But the situation right now can definitely be classified as a bubble.

Keeping aside the functionality of the app, the vibe of the web page and those mascots is NOT IT. They are unsettling and creepy

That is the exact line where I stopped reading the article
Re:Airport Simulator on Monday July 20, 2026 @08:40PM (#48986766)
First line of action was to crash two planes into each other. Mission successful
Nice very entertaining
Do they really have to specify greed mode? Isn't that the default?
Can someone who knows explain what is the benefit of having all that data in one ssd instead of splitting it up into hundreds of individual drives? Does the single ssd benefit is more performance or does it really tuen out to be cheaper than hundreds of individual drives?
It is a "There is No Antimemetics Division" kind of scenario. They discover the cure and then keep forgetting it.
Re:I learned Unity the wrong way on Sunday April 19, 2026 @05:41PM (#47827881)
I felt this article in my bones. I also had the same realisation years ago and eventually wrote about it on my blog: https://omeysalvi.com/blog/blog-11. I still have a long way to go but I feel encouraged that at least I'm learning with intent now.
Re:Book Review: There Is No Antimemetics Division on Tuesday April 07, 2026 @03:09AM (#47671689)
This review gives away too many key points in the story leading anyone who has read this before the book to anticipate what is going to happen. The reviewer should have added a note for spoilers before the review

Send it off to you tubers. This has flappy bird potential

I was impressed by the writer and glad about reading the article until I found out he works for Palantir

Show HN: Chat Plays Chess (YouTube)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihFjxCI4Hg4

I was interested in making a live game like Twitch Plays Pokémon from years ago. I recently saw the Falling Pickaxe game trending on YouTube and decided to go for it as a small project. I had already made a Chess game and thus had some code. I made this version by integrating the YouTube Data API. Game engine is Unity. Moves are checked every 20 seconds. The underlying AI is Stockfish. It falls...

Re:One Plus One Equals Two (2006) on Tuesday October 22, 2024 @11:44AM (#41915470)
Actually, it is a metaphor for formulating a brand new branch of mathematics that fixes the identity principle and all the problems with the square root of two. But also, it is not a metaphor because show me any physical system where an action times an action does not equal a reaction.
Re:Studios: Please Don't Spoil the Movie We Are Seated to See on Thursday October 10, 2024 @02:31PM (#41801800)
The re releases are not meant for those watching the movie for the first time. It is assumed the audience coming for these one time events is already a fan of the movie.
I love the fact that the ruling came from a court in a location called Sapporo (Sapphic)
Re:UPI Payments: 10B Transactions a Month Done, Next Stop 100B on Sunday September 03, 2023 @03:38AM (#37368474)
UPI payments used to be a little hit or miss a few years ago but they have been almost flawless for me over the last year. Apps have matured and show a warning if the recipient or self network is down rather than initiating a transaction that might never complete. The only roadblock now is to figure out a way to handle large volume days such as new years when the network is overwhelmed at night.
Yes, the latter
I hope Microsoft quickly finds a solution to move to RISC. I don't care about compatibility with older software. I want the battery life without having to move to MacOS and using it's awful window management.
Most software innovations seem to be made to make the developer's life easier instead of creating more performant software. I'm not complaining but user focused software innovations like LLMs do seem to come very few and far between compared to hardware.
Johnson and Johnson tried to spin up a subsidiary and shift all the blame to it for including asbestos in talcum powder for decades. Thankfully, the courts saw through the move and made them pay billions of dollars too
No, I'm a game developer. The app I'm making is a web app that I don't have much experience with. I'm using ChatGPT as a tool to cut down coding time and it is working great so far. I should have worded my comment better.
I'm using ChatGPT to build a note taking app just for myself. Haven't completed it yet but plan to open source it once it is done.
I may be completely wrong but having a lot of money, especially if you earned it by conventional definitions, might intrinsically motivate you to take better care of your health to live longer and enjoy your achievements. Kinda like an article I read that said poor people have unhealthy diets in some part due to the temporary relief from daily stresses offered by high sugar fatty foods might be more valuable to them than saving up money and health for a life that is pretty much going nowhere.

EDIT: It was a passage from a book called Hired by James Bloodworth
