I'm of half a mind to use this as a self hosted note taking app
Exactly, it is the same philosophy with which VCs will pour billions of dollars into a business to prioritize growth over everything. When all competition is eliminated, there is no one left to challenge you and you get all the benefits of a monopoly.
I really appreciate how writers at Quanta turn extremely complex and dry topics into a pleasurable read by mixing simple analogies with history. I really admire the skill it takes to break down these topics and make them fascinating for someone with no understanding of them, such as me.
If people are not allowed to monetize their innovations, there is no incentive to innovate. While this needs to have its limits, sharing it to everyone immediately upon creation is not an answer.
Very sad news indeed. It does go to show that even the rich and powerful are not immune to the chaos in this world.

Does this comply with Open AI's terms of service?
Learning languages like these feels like the premise of Arrival(2016) where learning a new language expands the way you think about and solve problems. I'm trilingual like most Indian people but I suspect learning languages like Japanese or Mandarin which use a different, pictorial way of representing words would be a similar way to improve cognition.
Hi, that is interesting to me. I found your GitHub profile but can't find an email.
Well I feel foolish now not knowing this existed but it was fun while it lasted.
So, I had this idea from a heartfelt meme that I saw online many years ago about someone who saved their XBOX because it had a save file from their dead brother. The save file was a replay of their last run around a particular track in the racing game. I was really moved by the meme and wanted to create a game that sort of "immortalizes" you like that. When I learned about machine learning, I identified it as a way to make that happen.
To make the current game, I started with a car driving around a track. The input data for the neural network was the distance from the central spline, tangent angles, and the preceding and the following curvature of the spline. It worked well but I wanted to add different gameplay than just driving around a track.
In the current iteration, the players are chasing a rabbit around the park and the input data is much simpler than in the first iteration - just the distance and angles. I'm only collecting 15000 data points right now, 5 minutes of game time at Unity's 50 physics per second.
I originally wanted the player to be able to play alongside multiple other data models that may choose to do different activities in the park. So, there was a track, a rabbit, and a butterfly - for each target, I collected different data points. But I wasn't able to make a network that accurately determined what they originally chose to do - i.e. which target they preferred - drive around the track or chase the rabbit or butterfly. The goal was to truly capture what a player preferred to do in the game space rather than just how effectively they were able to chase one goal. I'm still working on that.

Summer Friends Don't Stick Around is a "forever-time" multiplayer game created to immortalize players and give others a chance to play with them "in spirit" even after they are no longer with us.In the "Remember Me" mode, players can train a neural network to capture their play style. The output is a data model that can be shared with friends and family. Your playstyle is essentially encoded in...
I think AI is going to go the way of the hard sciences where the age of tinkerers making progress by leaps and bounds in their basement is over and incremental progress is going to be the domain of universities or large private companies that can afford to throw money behind it. I would love to be proven wrong and see radical shifts in how people approach these problems. Seems like the cycle started and got to this point way too soon for AI though
I remember when I got my first real Android smartphone- 2012. Since then up to, let's say, 2017, I upgraded almost every year and was blown away with how each phone added real value to my life. In the earlier years, it was just the number of things that I could do that increased and later everything just became a smoother less buggy experience. But since 2018, there just hasn't been enough to radically change the way I use my smartphone. I use almost the same apps in more or less the same way. It is almost like an utility now that I have a narrow use of and I really don't want any more of in my life.
Even if the story is true, taking this attitude to the extremes is what leads companies like Amazon to time warehouse workers down to the last second and set increasingly aggressive targets every year. It is easy to deal with people when they are just a bunch of numbers in a excel sheet.
No wonder they are going to run out of workers to hire in the US by 2024, as their own memo said.
>Why not just use C++?
Nothing good has come to anyone who started an argument with those words.
My master's degree is a 2 year period when I realised that regardless of the scale and complexity of a problem, if you have a systematic learning approach and resolve, you can overcome it.
If this has just a few more features, I'd legit use this as a notion replacement:
1. Tabbed file browser in a side pane
2. File tagging and favorites
3. Table sort and filter
4. Numbered and multilevel lists in text editor mode.
No need to take it home with you. Consistent schedule
This is not always guaranteed and you may not have a choice regarding this once you pass a certain stage in your career. It also depends on your industry and the part of the world you live and work in. Work life balance is notoriously non-existent for a vast portion of the world's IT workers.
All Indian students below the age of 13 have heard of Mohenjo-Daro. I don't remember what year's textbooks it was in for us but the author assertion that it is a place that "most people have never heard of" has almost a billion rebuttals.
The game is a legend for the possibilities it offers for emergent gameplay. Probably one day we can have its code open sourced, like its creators once wanted to, and take a peek behind its complex systems.
Don't do tutorials or Udemy courses. You will learn with them but you need to understand the math behind things to really make something worthwhile. Read the Deep Learning Book. It will prepare you to really dive deep into the field.

Doom 3's design suffered due to its programming innovations. Since the game developers wanted to show off the real time lighting, they opted for a horror like design that showed off the tech. It kinda drove it away from the thing that made the original Doom games fun - fast paced fps action
Given that affordances is defined as "the quality or property of an object that defines its possible uses or makes clear how it can or should be used," I think it refers to how modern UI designers obfuscate the entire power of a system behind easy to use functionality that is aimed at mostly non-technical users, leaving those who have the capability to mold it to their preferences and customize it at a disadvantage. I guess affordability is then a word play on affordances.
I agree, the title is a little self aggrandizing. As a game designer, I feel it disingenuous to claim it is a "new" kind of puzzle. The person just made a puzzle by adding rules to a set of constraints.
Are you working on the Yale Semantic Parsing and Text-to-SQL Challenge? Are you already on the leaderboard? The topic has always fascinated me and got me learning natural language processing to understand how it works.
Overcoming my mental health struggles. I actually make enough money to sustain myself but my stress comes from other things that I can't control. If I could just wake up one morning looking forward to the day instead of dreading it, I'll consider it a win.
The Futurama Series Finale was the most perfect ending Fry and Leela deserved and doing anything more with the IP will dilute that.
