I don't understand the presoaking. In the source of the linked article, it says it takes 1.5 hours of presoaking compared to only 10 minutes when cooking in boiling water. So it seems that when you split heating and rehydrating, cooking time changes drastically.

Interesting setup, do you use the Wacom as a touchpad with your finger or with the pen? Do you have an external keyboard?
Yes, this sounds even worse. Letting the government decide which company has to pay is definitely not fair. The government could target some companies it does not like and let other pro-government companies out of this law. Honestly it looks as if this law was written directly by mass media lobbyists. It is unfortunate that this kind of anti-democratic regulation is being passed all over the world nowadays, it is as if corporate lobbying is stronger than the common interest.
I am not familiar with the proposed law, is this basically the same as the EU link tax? If so, it is terrible.
There is no proof that microplastic harms humans, so I would not call it "heavily polluting" until we have hard proof that it actually is.

It would be interesting if someone managed to find this PNAS (maybe?) article on the pyramid scheme of university research.

Ask HN: How do you keep track of your personal email templates?

When writing a new email, I often find myself opening my "Sent" folder looking for a similar type of email that I have already written. This is especially the case for standard emails such as sending a document for review to my boss, requesting work from home, scheduling a meeting and so on.Having a single database with these email templates would be a time saver because, instead of rewriting...

How would you compare your Prolog code to the Python one? Is it more maintainable, was it easier to code, etc.?
Re:Canada aims to ban single-use plastics by 2021 on Monday July 13, 2020 @06:15AM (#23819121)
This. Thank you. Don't forget that there is no proof that plastic in oceans harms humans. On top of that, the infamous Great Pacific Garbage patch is actually made of fishing gear rather than of the despised plastic bottles.

there is no such thing as "regular people's interest". everyone's interest is a little bit different.

The socialists voted in favour of Article 13.
I would like to know this as well. If it is clear how to do so, I'd gladly join.

Why should I use this instead of Zotero?
> And we still occasionally get bad weather. I predict that scooter and bike usage will drop extremely fast once it rains for a week or two, or, god forbid, we get a real winter once again, with snow and sub-zero temperatures

Live in the Netherlands for a week and you'd be amazed at the resilience of Dutch bikers in bad weather.

Milan, for instance, will dramatically reduce the number of people that can access public transportation.
Walking or biking does not always imply high density! On the other hand, public transportation can easily get crowded. That is one reason why European cities are moving away from public transportation in favour of bikes, scooters and so on. Finally, I agree that it would be better to encourage car usage during a pandemic. One reasonable reason not to do so is that parking spots are limited.
Please note that European cities are moving away from traditional public transportation (buses, underground, etc.) in favour of personal transportation such as bikes and scooters.
I've been using something similar but at the router level using DNS, so that it works on all devices and it is not easily circumvented. Reclaiming that wasted time is pretty nice.
Re:SecureDNS will shutdown on 30th of April 2020 on Monday April 20, 2020 @03:35PM (#22927533)
I see a lot of comments mentioning NextDNS. How is it compared to OpenDNS?
I've been using https://stackedit.io/. They look very similar.
