I get an additional speed in Linux and Linux appears to be honest in file copy operations than Windows, which appears clever.
Windows based activities are no match in Linux, especially in setting up the system. I spent quite some time in finding the right location for .vimrc, so I can change some trivial behavior .
Any industry with productivity disruption
Useful. Please share if you have such gems.
Get me block level (vit, cit ...) commands in ST2 and I will switch. They are done very well in Vim.
I use HP Pavilion for 2 years and X220, which works on Ubuntu 12.04.
On HP, the hardware support for some key aspects keeps dwindling and that is a concern. I suspect the same with X220 (while updates, the Bluetooth driver site was not responding. I don't know if Bluetooth would continue to work.
I use a diary to maintain the tasks for any day. If the tasks are not done on that day, very rarely they are done in a single day, I write them on the next day's calendar page.
I also write a small note below the previous page where I get the next thread.
I would like you to add a facility to let us see the linked web page on the right hand side.
We need to think beyond mind maps. Not everyone is able to understand it.
I am using Linux for more than a year now and feel liberated from the Windows trap. Lately, Windows has become too slow in terms of even copy operations.
Looks to be a long reading. I think I can skip a few chapters .
It does not support Vim's wonderful vit, vat tools. Perhaps none supports like Vim. My fav for HTML/div editing.
No reasons really. I have found Vim better at tweaking. None can match that.
I would like to yet see a todo list software that sits on the neck on the user to complete the task he himself has entered. I need an outliner with following abilities: Expected result with a deadline Actions to complete the expected result Next review date/time
The software should pop up in the middle of anything to shout out the action after the review time has expired.
That completes all the to do list software has to offer.
One more thing - it has to be on Android.

Todo lists are a great utility for people like me who are obsessed with exploring ideas and forget rudimentary tasks like paying bills
The guide could be great, but the JavaScript based shell takes a life to open up and kills the experience. Why not use Linux on a Linux machine than a VM, JS shell etc? This makes it real hard to learn.

from the ask-hn dept.
I finally dropped my Blackberry and took Android. I was cautious while I moved on and use a $140, unlocked phone from a company (Karbonn) nobody knows. But Gingerbread works fast and it is responsive for my 1000+ contacts.I just want to ask if there is a community (like HN) dedicated to Apps. With half a million apps it is a daunting task to select a right app. I wanted a return key for SMS and...
it is already a complete tool to create websites. what else do we want?
We have lived with the Windows and OSX aps looking the same but offering different functionality. Why can't web apps do that, and be more functional?
I have been thinking about the app that brings the pending tasks back to the To-Do list. Any takers?
It is not responsive down to the images, so nothing much of use now.
I personally swear by
https://github.com/scrooloose/vimfiles.git installation. It doesn't go by some fancy name but does its work outstandingly. I have added to its vimrc wherever it deems fit.
ASK HN:
I am looking out for jumping out to a CSS selector in a css file from the HTML file I am editing for quite sometime in one key. Please see if you can guide me on this.
subtlepatterns 1st page is coming nice but shows all patterns other than Subtle on page 2.
Where do you find Go in 2012. It is also sponsored by a large organization.
it must be the people who reply to blogs.
Thanks for the theme. Changed Zenburn with Tomorrow-Night-Bright and feels very good. Zenburn was not able to show visual selections in a proper color. Also, non printable characters were showing very bright.
Problems solved with Tomorrow theme.
I have always preferred micro companies because of the freedom to drive the chiefdom from your humble developer positions. I remember an article about an Apple engineer developing first Mac to run on X86 architecture. This is an example of micro company that Apple has always been and I doubt any company, including Google, can match it.
