Look at the opponents of Democrats (the party), and where they stand on trans rights. Most Democrats support trans rights, almost no Republicans do. We can all close our eyes and wish we had a system that didn't reduce down to two parties, but at the end of the day we're all going to get either a Democrat or a Republican representing us unless you live in a hyper specific part of the country.
Earlier today I had to grit my teeth and vote for Josh Turek in Iowa, even though I think he's a shithead who threw trans people under the bus just to eke out a few more votes from conservative fence sitters. I could've made a protest vote, but the realpolitik of the situation is I'm either getting Turek or his Republican opponent, and I think Turek will do a much better job representing me despite his dumbass about-face on trans issues, whereas the Republican will be actively harmful.
I do, a Shopify app that helps merchants track orders across long manufacturing fulfillment processes. I built it ages ago when I was working as manual labor at a printing company, watching everyone run around all day trying to figure out where each order was. I'd daydream about how I could improve things and make them more efficient, right my ideas down in a notebook, then go home and build it in the evening.
I think the app is something like 12 years old now, but I still work on it to this day. I'm adding a new feature to it right now, and would like to kick the Shopify dependency someday soon.

Probably not the same people.

I got an email a couple weeks ago that said my credit card expired and GitHub couldn't renew my subscription. I honestly don't know what that subscription is getting me though, what am I paying for? I used to pay for private repos I think, but that's included for free now.
Every time I hand my wife my laptop to show her something, her first instinct is to touch the screen to make it scroll. I think for a lot of people, having a device that doesn't respond to touch is weird.
(Like most millennials, she grew up with computers and even works on a desktop every day; there's something about the medium that makes her think "this has a touch screen".)

That’s not a killer use case, that’s just running two apps next to each other. There are tons of phones and tablets that can do that. But they aren't iPhones.
Like I said, he's straining the system. But if the people punish Trump in November by removing the senators and representatives who've supported him, then I think it means the people explicitly don't support what he's done.
We live in a world where most (almost all?) humans value them.
> you select another person. and go on. Biden didn't get punised for what he has not achieved. So will Trump.
Democracy (in the US) is the whole system, not just the president. Biden didn't achieve everything he promised because he was in contention with the senators and representatives that were also elected by the people; same for Trump. It's checks and balances, the president can't do everything he wants because he gets checked by Congress and the courts; Congress can't do everything they want because they get checked by the president and the courts. Trump is straining that right now but that's the soul of American democracy – one guy doesn't decide it all, they must cooperate with Congress.
We'll see the system turn against Trump after the November election, when democrats are expected to take the house and probably the senate back from Trump's party. That's democracy in action: people are extremely unhappy with how Trump is handling things, so they're punishing him by voting in representatives who promise to rein him in.
72f is more reasonable, I don't think anyone does 60f.
> Discord, Zulip, Fluxer
It's on Poob. Poob has it for you.
I "own" a Discord server for my WoW guild and I'm not particularly happy about being on it, but it's the default choice for gamers and voice chat. It would kill our raid team's recruiting if we told people they had to install some obscure service instead of Discord if they wanted to raid with us.
These are just network effects.
That's not at all why my WoW guild moved to Discord.
The hat looks like one of a million other hats you see any guy wearing out in Iowa, from farmers to students to contractors. I have a hat just like it myself.
> the local R/C club airfield was nestled between an ocean of corn fields and the city dump, so it smelled terrible.
That's just how Iowa smells. If anything, the city dump was probably improving things!

lived here my whole life, it's an olfactory adventure :P
Don't forget to add "make no mistakes."
I'm satisfied with it for the most part, which isn't to say that local models can't be slow or don't do dumb shit that show their comparative lack of intelligence sometimes. But when I need speed or intelligence, I just press ctrl+p in my harness and spend a buck on OpenRouter.
It's my belief that we will (or probably have) hit a point where the majority of us receive diminishing returns from the sota models for the work we do. I don't need Astra or Mythos just to write some crud apps or refactor react to svelte, for example.
Regarding moats: it's been said by everyone else, but it doesn't seem like Anthropic has a moat. Everyone can easily switch from Claude to Codex, OpenCode, Pi, or any of the other zillions of harnesses. They can even have Claude do the migration for them if they want and it will oblige – that's what I did when I canceled my Claude subscription.
The idea that hardware and compute is their moat is interesting, but open/local models become more capable each week. As I write this, I have 3 instances of some no-name model working on 3 separate worktrees on my M1 Mac Studio. It was viable for me ages ago, and I'm not an AI enthusiast (I just happened to have bought a Mac several years ago that can run these models). I haven't paid Anthropic or OpenAI a cent since the early part of 2026.
Yeah, when I used to work with a company that religiously followed ticketing systems, it was always developers being forced to larp as the user. All to satisfy the "scrum master", as far as I could tell, because nobody else cared about the larp.
"As a user, I want a damn fine software product that just works, and I wish I didn't have to go through 10 layers of indirection to communicate that to the devs..."
Sadly that didn't seem to work out very well for women and children.

DeepSeek v7 Pro might open source and be better than any Claude model (unlikely), but JP Morgan and Eli Lilly are not going to go spend $500M on chinese AI tokens routed through OpenCode. But they might spend them on American inference providers running DeepSeek v7 Pro with ZDR routed through OpenRouter. Or hell, they might just run it themselves like we're already seeing some enterprises do right now.
Oh My Pi for an opinionated Pi.

What action would you take differently if a given feature were implemented by Claude, or a human? This one is easy: I'd read the docs if it were written by a human, but I won't read them if they're written by Claude.
Where can one sign up to be a paid shill for open models? I'm doing this for free right now but I'd like to get that bag.
