Re:How to Firefox on Friday July 25, 2025 @09:19AM (#44682839)
The irony of writing a post about Firefox on a blog that doesn't render well on Firefox (mobile)...

Give her a smartwatch with cellular instead (like an Apple Watch). She can do all the things you mentioned using a smartwatch without the distraction of apps and convenient texting.
Before coolify there was also exoframe[1]

I speak 2 foreign languages fluently, one of them is English, in which I got fluent by watching shows over the years (mainly Star Trek series and The Simpsons) with and without subtitles (first translated, then original English), and by reading a lot. Hard to say how many years it took, since I was a kid back then, but I got fluent enough to move to and study at the University level in the UK.

The other story is I got a girlfriend speaking the other foreign language (Slovak). We speak English and her language (foreign for me) interchangeably. We also lived in her country for some time. Time we spent speaking, listening and reading her language made me fluent. No special tricks, courses, apps...

Just practice, asking questions and learning. I got fluent in about a year, but bare in mind, Slovak and Polish (my native) share a common root, so it wouldn't have been as easy with something like Chinese or even French.

Re:Announcing TypeScript 2.0 on Thursday September 22, 2016 @04:06PM (#12559897)
Try adding 1.3 + 1.1 and tell me JavaScript isn't broken. Hint: The result is isn't 2.4, it's 2.4000000000000004.

Unfortunately that's something TypeScript doesn't tackle, but you can use external libraries for floats, where you work on floats as... strings.

Re:Announcing TypeScript 2.0 on Thursday September 22, 2016 @04:00PM (#12559843)
For me, it's not even about "typing" or even "checking for errors as you type". The killer feature is: almost never having to read library documentation. You type the code, and get suggestions for all the properties and methods available, along with all the possible arguments you are supposed to pass. Saves you a TON of time and context switching, so you can focus better on the task at hand.

That alone makes TypeScript worth the trouble IMHO.

Re:Bash Infinity Framework on Saturday February 20, 2016 @09:36PM (#11143029)
There's no magic here. The code is quite clear, if you wish to review. Moreover, each module is independent, so you can include only the files that you find useful, after reviewing them beforehand. As to why: 1. For fun, as an exercise. 2. It does make it more pleasant to write and debug readable Bash scripts.

Obviously — you should always use common sense and choose the programming language to your needs.

Thanks for posting, ingve. I'm the author of this framework. If you have any questions about it, please ask.
