Here are some "First Things on a Server" Notes. https://gist.github.com/klaushardt/07f5e3068355aafc2dce660a5...

Ansible/Puppet or NixOS would be better, but this is what works in Self Hosting.

Sorry i do not use Snapchat and with googeling "Snapchat image flickering" i did not find a good result. Could you elaborate this a bit more or provide me with a link where this is described? Thank you very much. :)
Re:Nightshade v1.0 Released on Monday January 22, 2024 @04:36AM (#39087821)
You could just build a stabilizer system and stand really still for 1 second. Then expose for a longer time. Photography is Apertrue, ISO, and exposure time. This will gather enough light to do a proper exposure even in a dimm lit venue. Anything darker and every viewer will have a hard time seeing the private art. ANother thing would be to crank up the ISO and denoise it later. Its much more lossy but with this you could get lower exposure times.
Re:Microsoft wants to move Windows to the cloud on Thursday November 16, 2023 @10:33PM (#38299165)
I am in the process to convert from windows to macOS. Could you tell me a few reasons not to do it before I maybe make a mistake?
Re:EU tells Apple to open everything up to its rivals on Wednesday September 27, 2023 @03:32AM (#37671349)
Are you sure about your Statement "All their hardware is harder to repair than what is available from competition."?

https://www.ifixit.com/repairability/smartphone-scores

    Apple iPhone 14: 4
    Apple iPhone 14 Plus: 7
    Apple iPhone 14 Pro: 6
Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max: 6
    iPhone 13 Pro: 6
    iPhone 12 Mini: 6
    iPhone 12 Pro: 6
    iPhone SE 2020: 6
vs.

    Samsung Galaxy S22: 3
    Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra: 3
    Fairphone 4: 10 (ok clear winner :D)
    Google Pixel 6: 6
    Google Pixel 6 Pro: 5
    Google Pixel 5a: 6
    Mi 11: 4
    Huawei Mate 40 Pro: 4
    Microsoft Surface Duo: 2
Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra: 3
    Samsung Galaxy Z Flip: 2
    Motorola razr: 1
    Google Pixel 4 XL: 4
I mean, they are all bad, but looks like Apple is not "harder to repair".

> How about an OS that's not walled-garden shite? One that any competent programmer could write an app for -- in any language they chose -- and offer for download to all comers without getting Apple's permission and without paying Apple a dime?

There are enough cross compile frameworks available. Sideloading is comming in the EU, i think till 2025.

> How about a development system built in to the phone so you could add a keyboard and a mouse and write an app, compile it, and install it without ever leaving the phone?

Will officially be possible with sideloading.

> How about a 1/8" jack so I can listen privately on $15 wired buds from one of 1000 different suppliers without paying $300 for buds that are going to become e-waste as soon as their batteries refuse to charge?

Use 15$ Bluetooth Buds from the 1000 different suppliers? Or use the dongle.

> How about being able to replace the main battery myself, in my home, without trashing the entire fu*king phone?

Is already officially possible.

> How about selling the phone with a decent protective case that still allows the Qi charger to work?

The Leather Case for example is working perfectly fine with Qi Charging.

> How about using formal methods to ensure some Israeli spyware group cannot constantly find zero-days in my phone and put my life in danger without constant after-the-fact patch-and-pray security upgrades?

All software will be exploited. Did you see how suffisticated the last exploit was? They build and own software cpu to execute their payload.

Re:Inside the AI porn marketplace on Thursday August 24, 2023 @03:23PM (#37253419)
rule34 and Celebfakes exists since the beginning of the internet. This ist just more accessible and not a niche anymore. Not much you can do. The tools are there, everybody can generate deepfakes on his offline phone now. Better to live with it. Now when your real nudes leak somehow you can just say its a deepfake.

Sounds perfect, could you share this shortcut? Just remove your api key beforehand.

The author said in the security heading that it’s unsafe cause he trusted his keys to a 3rd party wich got hacked. Sounds more like a salty article than a well written one.

Already done. Here was a link, like 1-2 months ago about a reality TV show or so wich replaced all faces with ai. Sadly I can’t find it right now.
Cause Paul tagged his trusted people. Sounds like everybody knows everybody around two corners like on LinkedIn. This could create another form of SEO Tag Spam.

I do the same, i live in germany and wanted a book from UK, sadly it has 4-5 weeks delivery time but our vacation was a week away. So i downloaded the book, read it on our vacation and had the physical copy a few weeks later deliverd. Later i bought the book a second time when the german version released. With another book i bought for my wife and wanted to read at the same time, i downloaded it and we could both read it and talk about it simultaneously. Some other time i wanted to read a book at home with a physical copy and on my kindle during some time when i was outside in the garden. Cause in a hammock the kindle is easier to hold. Every time i had purchased the physical copy and the illegal download was just for convenience. No harm done.
Re:iPhone 14 Pro Camera Review: A Small Step, a Leap on Wednesday November 02, 2022 @05:12AM (#33433083)
Actually if you shoot raw its not good to go below base iso. Recently i learned that when you go under base iso the camera just overexposes the image and pulls it down in software to give you longer exposure times. With raw you can just raise shadows in post, its easier than pulling lights down. Negative side effect is highlight blowing out easy when going below base iso. So if you shoot raw then just stay at base iso and raise shadows in post. And if you really need the longer exposure invest in a ND filter.
Re:iPhone 14 Pro Camera Review: A Small Step, a Leap on Wednesday November 02, 2022 @05:07AM (#33433033)
Looks like you never took a lanscape photo where you had to use a (Gradiant) ND, Polarisation Filter, Multiple Exposures, Long Exposures for smooth Water or anything where you had to hink about how to take the perfect shot. So yes for a quick snapshot a phone is good enough. For a photograph a bigger camera is much more benefical than "just" for sharper images.

I use Vodafone and an up to date iPhone. Voice Calls are so crappy here in Germany its not even funny. I always prefer texting over calling.

So theoretically some bad actor can just send someone pictures of cp to a gmail (and maybe google workspace) address and get them banned and investigated? This cant be right ...
Re:Naomi Wu video demonetized on YouTube on Thursday January 27, 2022 @08:19AM (#30100187)
Breasts are a secodary sex organ. And i dont know how you prefer your intercourse, but i happily fondle with the breasts of my wife during sex. If you break down sex to just reproduction, ofc they are only needed to feed the baby. But culturally the are sexual organs and erotic. So its normal in my (european) culture to hide breasts (at least the nipples) from public.

Edit: I would like to add that its not okay to demonetize Naomi Wus 3D Bust Video. Thats another discussion and i think we are on par here.

Don't ask to ask, just ask

Every now and then, in online chat rooms I hang around in, someone pops in and says something in the lines of,

    Foobar123:

    Any Java experts around?
This is bad form, for several reasons. What the person is actually asking here is,

    Foobar123:

Any Java experts around who are willing to commit into looking into my problem, whatever that may turn out to be, even if it's not actually related to Java or if someone who doesn't know anything about Java could actually answer my question?

Re:How to manually merge two Apple IDs to one (2020) on Sunday July 11, 2021 @07:20PM (#27805343)
I have a problem where I can’t find a Solution. Maybe anyone here has an hint for me. I had an selfhosted owncloud carddav server wish dosent exist anymore. I used it for my contacts on my iPhone. These are now only stored locally but still internally in the owncloud account. When I delete the old owncloud carddav server then the iPhone will delete all contacts. I tested it when I bought a new iPhone and after setting it up with a transfer of all data I tester it on the old phone before I resettet it. I want to migrate my contacts to iCloud but I can’t find a clean way for doing this. Every app I testet messed up some aspects of the contacts. Mostly the picture or custom fields. Does anybody has a hint for me how I can comfortably and error free migrate away from this non existent owncloud carddav to icloud? Thanks in advance. :)
