Spotify, Dropbox and Linode.

Really nice; I think it will be great for collaborations although the troll environment was quite hectic.
It looks like a solid app and I think your feature with in-app purchases will work good for the audience. However; outside U.S. so I can just wish you good luck with the sale.
Re:A proposal for the freelancer community on Thursday September 13, 2012 @10:46AM (#4516370)
I have thought about this too living in Sweden where I as an employee had 25 days of vacation a year and how to bring that in to my freelancing.

As I see it; impossible. You can charge an extra in time or money to make up for it, but when you go on vacation as a freelancer you do not have anyone running the office.

Re:My reply to a recruiter who asked for my CV on Thursday September 06, 2012 @06:32AM (#4483567)
When I got a lot of CV requests from recruiters I took a similar yet much more childish approach to your mail.

I created a PDF with my name, email and a link to my linkedin-profile. That way I could see if they had a look at my profile, most did and I actually got some good laughs and a couple of interviews with it.

In some cases, because everyone is doing it.

Otherwise I am pretty sure they have some kind of partnership that are built on foundation of hosting for advertising.

SEEKING FREELANCER / CO-FOUNDER - Stockholm, Sweden / Remote

I am working on a self-funded project, call it a start-up. My progress with Python is unfortunately not going to result in a MVP anytime soon; and that is why I am open to team up with a full-stack developer that can be in charge of the development; as a freelancer or co-founder.

Contact mail at magnusforsberg.com for more information.

Re:Show HN: my weekend project, whatsnerdy.com on Sunday September 02, 2012 @08:43AM (#4466876)
I really like the sources and amount of content you picked out. Good choice of a domain as well.

But like sangupta and amirf I think you should improve the UI a bit; maybe have a go with twitter's bootstrap?

One thing I really would like is that you skip the two columns and narrowed it down do one column and worked a bit on the navigation so that it's on one line or grouped in some shape or form.

Re:Ask HN: How do I teach myself design? on Saturday September 01, 2012 @04:00AM (#4463024)
You could try to apply your current learning pattern first; read books on color theory to get going. Another thing that could be fun for you just to get going is to re-design services you like and try to improve them, in your eyes.

Ask HN: Why should I apply to a start-up accelerator?

Fellow HN:ers.Thru my alumni-network I have got the chance to apply with my start-up idea to an trial start-up accelerator. At first I thought it would be a great idea; but the more I work on my application the less sure I am.To those of you that have been in accelerators like YC; what was your main motivation for applying and what did you hope to gain?

Good work tosbourn! Like f3r3nc, I would also like to read more about your process on redesigning it.
• How do you launch and acquire users? • What is your USP that makes me tell my friends? • Are there any upsides of sharing the app?
Good one.
Re:'Lulzsec hacker' latest to be arrested in US on Wednesday August 29, 2012 @08:59AM (#4448248)
Is it social engineering by Sabu that lead to all the arrests?
Re:Do you know HTML5? on Tuesday August 28, 2012 @12:28PM (#4444496)
How to answer this question has made me argh as well. My answer is entirely based on how I judge the person asking. if it is a recruiter of some sort; "Yes". If it is someone who I guess is a bit more familiar with HTML5 level I would ask them to be more specific.
Re:Ask HN: How do brands work? on Tuesday August 28, 2012 @04:37AM (#4442692)
"Are brands basically a way to let people be lazy by outsourcing their thinking?"

I think not. Brands as I see them are much about experience and expectations. Myself; I am loyal to a handful of brands. Call me a Nike AF1 sneakerhead or a apple fanboy. But what it comes down to for me is the experience that these brands deliver; and I know what to expect from them.

With that said I believe that brands are built over time on customer interaction and the value provided.

Re:Show HN: Pinterest + iTunes + Youtube Mashup on Saturday May 05, 2012 @07:42AM (#3931920)
Working good on my Chrome, OS X. And I think it's a great project, will check out the github. A suggestion would be to change the play-icon to pause and add some kind of progress bar to it when a song is playing?
As a swede I'd say most do it to hide their online activities, at least that is the case with most the people I know using a VPN-service.
I got to read some, but not all. Looking forward to read up on the rest when you get your hosting in check.
Re:Is this the era of "Success by UX"? on Thursday February 16, 2012 @04:19AM (#3597962)
I agree they lack the edge in UX, on the other hand they got the other 2/3 of the puzzle that ender7 talks about in his first comment.
I think it will be an option for many indie publishers in all mediums in a not to distant future.

On the other hand I'm not really sure about the way Gaffigan lays it out, which is not making me want to spend $5.
