Damn, I was hoping for Triffids
So you're saying this administration is just like the last?
Re:Tiny Little Office on Wednesday October 14, 2026 @07:51PM (#50097286)
I was musing on something like this. There is non zero chance that some US administration disables GSuite / Office365 for all of us living in shithole countries.

They have a special place in my heart.

I recently described finishing Fire Upon the Deep as saying goodbye to a very dear friend. A great book.

Meta VR Glasses... and where they will be banned next!
Australia is blessed with quite the spineless government at the moment. I doubt very much that they would be doing anything (at all actually) as concrete as forging deeper ties with Europe - at least at the expense of the US. After all, it wasn't so long ago that Australia handed the US $800 million of its citizen's hard-earned for submarines that might not ever get built within an alliance that looks increasingly one-sided.
Re:My Friend Aaron on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @09:42PM (#49443148)
Very enjoyable. I was waiting for Aaron to have a heart attack, same outcome, less contrived maybe.
As Australian failed rich guy /scumbag Alan Bond said... if you owe 30k you have problems, if you owe them 30 million they take you to lunch. Or words to that effect
I would immediately walk way from you. Then you could label me as an uncooperative element in your database of people you've met.

These things are peak ick

Re:Ask HN: Add flag for AI-generated articles on Sunday July 12, 2026 @10:25PM (#48887116)
There absolutely needs to be stigma surrounding LLM generated work that is masquerading as creativity.

AI slop is AI slop.

Yeah, and he threw a huge bunch of cash to acquire them. pretty easy to acquire. Harder to build. He got lucky with facebook because myspace sucked. Good timing.

Taipei claiming a big chunk of the PRC. Probably go down as well as Ottawa and Mexico City claiming big chunks of the USA
That's very cool. But I really need to know how many people have visited the site as well as how long a page will take to download on a 56k modem.

I would have thought you'd need to be a druid
"Here is why that is a real step in Microsoft’s Linux journey, not just a version bump"

"It's not just this, it's a totally also that" Clause and CrapGPT love this phraseology.

<current government>, isn't really your <typical government>. Protest is warranted. And I'm sure that these serious people felt that their actions were justified. I'm glad they did it, and I'm glad I have read about it.
"Microsoft’s in-house Linux, the distribution that grew out of CBL-Mariner, just hit public preview as a general-purpose cloud OS you can run on any Azure VM. Here is why that is a real step in Microsoft’s Linux journey, not just a version bump."

Christ, they even lead with AI slop.

Boggles the mind that corporates stick to expensive, inefficient, insecure and in so many ways crap software. SQL Sever, Office, Oracle (any product), Windows servers and workstations - yet demand peak efficiency from staff.
Another little corner of the internet is gone.

Had to check... but this is still here https://dack.com/web/bullshit.html

They dont have all the skills to do anything super complex in a sustainable way.

And that's stopped them?

With Apple, one can never quite tell if it's intentional.
Re:As a former social media analyst, I'm quitting Twitter on Sunday November 01, 2020 @08:02PM (#24963993)
This was my experience (You do it to improve your life...), and I'm very glad I did. It's almost the same feeling I had when after quitting smoking for a month, almost elation - I had really done it. The space that twitter occupied in my life was in amazing disproportion to the actual point of it. "Cred" doesn't come in to it.
