Re:Cloudflare Pages: the best way to build JAMstack websites on Thursday December 17, 2020 @09:30AM (#25455836)
Cloudflare has been a lot more than a CDN for a long time.
Re:We didn't encrypt your password, we hashed it on Friday September 04, 2020 @05:51PM (#24379240)
If you are doing this isn't it pretty much the same as encrypting it with a key?
Does anyone else get intermittent 503 "upstream error or disconnect" when running istio? We get this fairly regularly and have to patch services to get it to run again. Would love to share ideas if anyone faces similar issues.

Re:Ask HN: How do you check a url is valid? on Saturday October 21, 2017 @12:04PM (#15522282)
That the url is valid
Re:Ask HN: How do you check a url is valid? on Friday October 20, 2017 @02:12PM (#15517928)
And this is exactly the problem I want to solve and the key challenge
Re:Ask HN: How do you check a url is valid? on Friday October 20, 2017 @02:11PM (#15517926)
So I think in this instance I would deem valid to be: 1) the url is the correct format 2) the url resolves to an ip address 3) the url is registered and is in use. By this I mean it's not one of the "this domain name is for sale" pages.

Number 3 is the novel and challenging piece of this.

Ask HN: How do you check a url is valid?

So it is trivial to check a url is valid using regex, but if you wanted to take this one step further and make sure it is a valid domain name that is registered and actually in use...how would you do this? I have a few ideas for how to achieve this with a Microservice but I feel like others may have solved this problem before and there may be better solutions out there.

Ask HN: Will I have more success as a Full Stack or front/back end developer?

I am a mid level full Stack Developer. I enjoy working on all areas of the Stack, but I have started to try to move towards the more senior rank and I am wondering if being a specialist in one particular area will make me more employable/valuable. An alternative I'm thinking of is just to spend time working on my JavaScript(react, node) skill set and presenting myself as a JavaScript full...

Re:Ask HN: How do you approach learning a new topic? on Monday May 15, 2017 @02:10AM (#14339487)
Specific to development- I am a big fan of pluralsight. I have done hours and hours in courses on various topics and I think it's the best way to get going on something new for me.

What gulp tasks do you use?

I am just about to start using gulp on my project to prepare my front end for production. It's effectively going to run my tests, transpile it and move it to a new directory, however I know it is capable of much more. What do you use gulp for?

Re:Problems with Android Studio on Thursday February 23, 2017 @02:54PM (#13717145)
someone just starting out...what tools can I use to make the dev experience better than just using android studio? Typically I make a small UI change and rerun it to my device....rinse and repeat. Is there better ways?

Ask HN: Should I accept a job at a start up or a big company?

I have job offers for some interesting start ups and also some big companies. I currently work for a big company and sometimes get annoyed by the politics but I enjoy the security and benefits. The idea of working for a start up sounds cool to me in that I will get a lot of say over the tech stack, will learn a wide bunch of skills and there is probably a lot more room for growth. However, I am...
