i'm always sad when we are missing on such a list, eventhough I guess we tick most of the boxes you mention...
- parties/social events as focus
- 3d, but not trying to cater for corporate markets
- not a town at all
as you obviously spent some time thinking about this topic I'd really appreciate some feedback: https://laptopsinspace.de
Re:Show HN: Pop.com – Video Calls, in 3D

congratulations, looks cool!
I'm one of the persons behind https://laptopsinspace.de and it would probably be interesting to share some experiences.
Our tech stack is similar, yet different.
We also use mediasoup for the video, Svelte for the frontend and ThreeJS as the 3D framework!

shameless plug: we saw a similar problem, but our solution is spatial video calls in 3D instead of 2D: https://laptopsinspace.com
it's also built on top of the jitsi meet api but uses an extra backend for managing the game data.

wholeheartedly agree! our project focuses on that part specifically - in a 3d environment

for the last two bigger events we had a live-stream with the audience watching (together) on the big screen

Our project "laptopsinspace" shifts the whole experience into 3D which makes it feel a lot more natural.

For bigger events, there is an elevator, that takes you flying from room to room: https://twitter.com/NeeshStudio/status/1286010155772108802

that normally only happens if your webcam is already in use, but we surely need better user feedback for that...
I'd be happy to trouble shoot it with you on twitter, dm me at @neeshstudio

I already commented below, but that's pretty much what we are aiming at with https://laptopsinspace.de
It's not VR (on purpose), but instead it has facial expressions and some gaming feel to it

We are developing a similar idea, but in 3D instead of 2d https://laptopsinspace.de

We are trying to solve this with a twist on 3d spatial video chat. https://laptopsinspace.de

Thanks :) we have a couple of features lined up specifically targeted at (music) events, but are also putting some energy into making it suitable for artist talks and panels.
