Re:How do companies make their AIs "woke"? on Tuesday February 27, 2024 @04:24PM (#39530193)
Sorry I don't mean it as insult or to stir up any political arguments. I guess I could have said "personality", but I was motivated to understand this from the Google Gemini controversy.

How do companies make their AIs "woke"?

It's a common quip to say that LLMs are black boxes and that we have no idea how they "think". Of course that was always an exaggeration, but there is some truth to in that answers are generated from billions of miniscule connections between entities that are nearly impossible to reason about. How exactly then are they able to turn up and down the woke slider for their models? It seems...

What does trust have to do with this? The trade-off has been clearly explained. As it stands, WhatsApp is great for protecting sexts and low value conversations if you're not famous (99.99% of everyone), but if you're snowden, or hillary, there is no protection - contrary to what has been advertised.

I think the picture could be even less rosy than that. It could be argued that Ballmer was just there while the enormous untapped value and momentum that had been accumulating in Microsoft over the years started to get released. It's possible any other CEO could have done the same or better by being in that position at that time. Could be true of Cook as well. He inherited Apple with an extreme amount of untapped potential.

Re:What's wrong with my landing page? on Monday January 09, 2017 @12:51AM (#13354306)
The page looks decent overall, however, I'm having trouble imaging how it works. Would someone simply give an instagram id, then get nice analytics?

I wonder if pricing is high, what about a non-expiring free tier for 1000 posts?

Minor suggestion: "Save your time with one click, shareable, reporting"

Ask HN: Is there a need for a generalized recommendation engine service, that:

- Required no data training or upload- Worked with any topic or domain- Can be integrated with any site or app at any point without planning- Had a dead-simple api: rate(), getRecommendations()There doesn't seem to be any live service with these properties and ease of use, yet almost every site could benefit from it.

> you can use paypal [to] store EUR or USD [from yuan]

How would you do this?

If it is possible to exchange yuan to usd and keep it in paypal without a US account, I would still be very uncomfortable storing hundreds of thousands of dollars in it. It is a centralized entity that can freeze funds for any reason, be compelled to report things, make mistakes, paper trail, etc.

Being able to exchange currencies is also a step above regular banking I believe. You need access to forex markets and the associated setup and trails.
