I can vouch for people still there. I’m a Brit who married an Iranian who still has a large family in Iran. With the exception of one religious aunt who is married to a military man, all the Iranian family and friends we know have been hoping for intervention. We've had emotional messages from my wife’s cousin (a new mum) describing looking out of her apartment every night for the past month praying for planes overhead. Take that anecdata for what it’s worth.
I don't claim to have the answers, and don't necessarily disagree with you. But that's how the Iranians I know insider Iran feel. That there was pain ahead of them with or without intervention.
I’m a Brit, married to an Iranian who still has a large family in Iran. I’ve got to witness first hand quite the opposite to what you describe, at least with the British mainstream media. With the exception of one religious aunt who is married to a military man, OP’s comment reflects the feeling of all the Iranian family and friends we know. And FWIW, I can point to Iran on a map, and I am not Mossad.

I've always liked Steve Blank's definition:
"A startup is a temporary organization designed to search for a repeatable and scalable business model."
I would say Dropbox has found a repeatable and scalable business model.
Great job! I recently created a similar service:

Your application is much better though. I used prawn as opposed to wicked_pdf to generate the PDFs. Did you do any handling of content spilling over onto multiple pages?

I think a "make email visible" checkbox would clear up any confusion here.
Thanks for the ideas. You can now edit the submission. I am considering the reply functionality, I just wouldn't want it to compromise the simplicity.
It was a midweek side project so there was never a business model in mind. I tried starting up
http://kennelboard.com, but it never really took off (selling and developing is hard on your own), so I'm now looking for a job and hoping that this will help me swoon potential employers.

Thanks.
That's a really good idea. I just put it together in a few hours and hadn't thought that far ahead :)

Inspired by the following post by photon_off...http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1683309I made karmurl last night. It's a simple app where you submit a URL for feedback, then for every piece of feedback you give to someone else's, you get to read one piece of feedback for yours.http://karmurl.com
For the life of me I can't understand why Apple decided to remove hex values from their color picker with Lion. This is a great alternative, the copy shortcut is very handy.
Surely it depends what your goal is.
You wouldn't leave your job to build apps, but you might to build a business.
Of course apps are fun to build. But making something profitable involves doing a lot of things which are not fun, marketing for example. At this point, someone simply making an app is likely to walk away and just build another. After all, their goal was simply to have fun.
I saved up enough money to leave my job and build a niche software product. Fingers crossed, it will be launching early 2011.
It's terrifying, and I'm broke, but I have learned I am infinitely happier when I'm calling my own shots.
My hope for 2011 is to have a business which is profitable enough for me to carry on working for myself, and not look for another job.
Good luck everyone in 2011.
Don't show him Google Calendar.

I took a new entrepreneurial module for computer scientists in my last year of university.
It was a nice idea but in truth we would have all been better off if we'd been given a link to pg's essays and been told to go home.
A collection of problems would be more valuable.
True, although I suppose if they put "houseless" you probably wouldn't have read it...
Idea 1: Keep the number of ideas in which you simplify your life manageable.
I may well be alone in this view and I really don't want to sound rude but personally I just can't get excited about another one of these sites. It seems the successful ones (e.g. hotornot) in this area were the ones which were both original and fun. Unfortunately, I don't think this is either. Looks beautiful and I'm sure a lot of work went into it, but not for me. I feel bad, maybe I shouldn't have posted! Hmm..
