The agent of change is often the punching bag.
Re:Ask HN: How did you increase your UX skills? on Wednesday July 20, 2022 @06:33PM (#32173281)
Tell yourself and others that you're and empath and that you're human-centered. Seek out like minds and converse with them about interfaces. Do it lots - for years.
The company I work for seems to be trending toward remote. It feels like a bad trend to me - quality of work is lower. Creativity is lower.

Put me in a room with a few other folks, some whiteboards and some laptops and magic happens. Hanging around the house and chatting on zoom+slack is boring, pathetic and produces no magic.

What is the rate of change?

Abundance is not equally distributed
Re:100 years of whatever this will be on Thursday December 02, 2021 @05:33PM (#29423743)
You see what you want to see. These are not true in my daily life,

1 "Rich, powerful, greedy people and corporations just get richer, more powerful, and more greedy." 2 "Everyone seems to increasingly be in it for themselves, not for society." 3 "Or, people who are in it for society tend to lose or to get screwed until they give up."

Dial back the doom and gloom mindset. It's an abundant world.

Re:Ask HN: Finding Shared Warehouse Space on Friday March 01, 2019 @10:20PM (#19287288)
I don't know if the pattern is the same for Toronto and the SF Bay Area.

I simply want a way to rent warehouse space in a light weight way - without signing a two year lease. Always cool to share workspace with like minds too.

Thank you.

Ask HN: Finding Shared Warehouse Space

How does a person go about finding shared warehouse space? I can use craigslist to find shared housing, but I don't know how to find shared, light industrial, work space.I recently relocated to Menlo Park, CA and am looking for 800 square feet of shop space to operate a CNC machine. I've had no luck combing craigslist and even posted an out-of-place wanted ad yesterday,...

Re:The Problem with Positive Thinking on Sunday October 26, 2014 @11:50AM (#8511358)
The author is confusing positive thinking with blind, without-a-plan, plowing ahead. They're not the same.

Optimism and positive thinking are close synonyms. Positive thinking is the a belief that there is a solution to the problem and that you, as a problem solver, should be open to the paths that lead to the solution.

Huh. Why would a book published in 1914, about treating lung issues with kerosene, top the list? Why would there be so much interest in that item?
Re:Ask HN: What is the next industry to be disrupted? on Thursday April 25, 2013 @09:38PM (#5611015)
Pants for dogs. The current dog pants industry is old, slow, and full of inefficiency. It's next.
