AI EM here, same. The level of productivity has increased dramatically in the last 2 months. Reliable code also has increased due to AI.

This train isn't stopping.

What trips up a lot of SEs where I work is their techniques. Everyone who follows our process delivers faster and with higher reliability so far.

You can also tell Claude to setup scheduled tasks.

This is very helpful when you want Claude to do something specific, like analyze the next phase. Review past performance etc. I have found this to be a little better than Goal. However, cron tasks only continue for 7 days.

Build it!

Claude can turn something like this around in less than a day.

> literally regulated utilities.

Regulated in what way that is relevant to the concern about digital sovereignty or privacy?

> I’m failing to see how Twitter is relevant.

My point is that voice and text ONLY (dumb phones) isn't some significant change from apps in terms of the concerns I am raising.

> I am talking about basic cellular service

If you and your children can maintain that situation, great, it doesn't change that society has NOT accepted that. That society sees you as unusual for not conforming. Which is the entire point of my argument. The pressure to conform doesn't yield because of a single person's choice and many use the arguments you are using to maintain their children's access to a $1,000 iPhone loaded up with brain rot apps.

Re:Digital Minimalism on Saturday October 31, 2026 @11:38AM (#50317162)
> My kids having a cell phone with basic phone and texting capability isn’t a digital sovereignty issue.

Of course it is, the first version of Twitter was a texting platform. You can't draw some line and say that this is the end of the baggage that comes with this convenience because that is not how the world works. The inevitability of social pressure means "keeping up with the Joneses" so your kids need to communicate with others, not just you.

Just because it doesn't come in the form of an app doesn't mean it is safe or come without risks.

Re:Digital Minimalism on Saturday October 31, 2026 @09:27AM (#50316018)
I am not certain but I think you missed my point.

I am not saying that those things have no value. The opposite is definitely true. However, you are accepting a lot of baggage by reinforcing the systems that bring those conveniences. Now, you MUST have a cellphone or you are a Luddite. You MUST have a cellphone or you can't read a menu at a restaurant, unlock the door to your hotel room or access your bank funds.

You now have lost digital sovereignty to large corporations because you need to be able to get a hold of your kids within seconds.

All conveniences come with costs that you and society must bare.

Re:Digital Minimalism on Saturday October 31, 2026 @08:28AM (#50315539)
> Not to mention the many inconveniences this would bring about.

This is what reinforces the problem.

When we choose conveniences, we reinforce them. This makes it harder to get away from the things that brings us that convenience.

Conveniences to be able to get a hold of anyone in seconds rather than waiting. Believe it or not, there was a time when we were just, not available. It was OK.

Did that mean that things were a little more challenging? Of course, road trips or going anywhere new meant more upfront planning. Not knowing where your children were brought anxiety which meant rules. However, it was all manageable. By ALWAYS choosing conveniences, we shut the door on alternative options which in turn make it harder to deal with inconveniences.

> I don't know how

You are spreading misinformation then.

The configuration change was never a full protection from this vulnerability because the problem is with how PHP processed the request well before the configuration or your PHP code was executed.

> Transit is very heavily subsidized by taxes.

So are roads.

I have been working on this exact same thing. Using real hardware, I am trying to simulate down to the jail bars that are caused by the design.

LLMs make this kind of development really approachable.

What is fascinating is I can now build components that work through an Arduino to interface with real accessories and C64s.

Re:Why aren't AI companies being charged for hacking? on Monday October 12, 2026 @11:35AM (#50057950)
Fun fact a "jay" in jaywalker was a derogatory term at the time. Meaning "a rube" or "country bumkin". It was initially thrown at drivers, but car companies successfully flipped the insult.

As an early fan of Winamp, what I have found is that most people do not want the Winamp experience these day. The problem with Winamp is it came with no music, only a JJ McKay promo.

There are many players that seek to emulate the Winamp experience but much of the audience for something like that have moved on to Spotify. Today's audiences want a fully curated experience from their "Player", which Winamp was never designed to do.

> It sounds like you solved the problem of losing access to society by losing access to society.

Perhaps, but frankly I have been more on the lookout for people like me. Natural filter for compatibility?

> Have you considered having backups instead? Carry a physical credit card, make sure you have a backup phone uncharged at home ready for a swap?

I mean, I carry a wallet. Most vendors and society still take cash or card. Where the real friction comes in is staying connected to a community. Everyone wants to keep social connections virtual for some odd reason. As a remote worker I definitely get the virtues of remote interaction, but sometimes meeting people in person has benefits. It does not have to be all-or-nothing and it feels like we are moving to an all-or-nothing digital way of life.

Re:Ask HN: How to recover Google auth after phone stolen? on Thursday September 17, 2026 @04:03PM (#49745789)
Same, it is kind of strange. Back in 2005 I was one of the first to carry the full internet on my phone and now I am leading the charge to avoid having to carry the internet in my pocket.

If your product or service requires a phone, I just don't do business with you. I know I sound archaic recommending this, but we (as a society) need to push back on your phone being the key to your life.

My phone is no more special than my laptop, however this requires an incredible amount of inconvenience for most people along with the constant social pressure to carry a cellphone. As you can imagine, I do not have many friends these days.

Tiny sonic booms (whip cracks) resonating throughout a data center in Virgina.

> I can assure you leaving children under 16 unsupervised is illegal in most states.

This is absolutely untrue. Only 3 states have an age specific standard. Most states set no specific limits by age. The bigger problem is the vagueness of the laws we do have in place around child neglect which allows a cop or neighbor to be the biggest determining factor of whether you get a knock on your door.

Re:Hang on to Your Firefox on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @12:19PM (#49538551)
Thank you for taking the time to write all this out. I've never noticed these issues. I also agree, that these are fair criticisms that Mozilla should address.

Also, to be fair to you, I rarely use my phone as a dedicated browsing device so I am probably least representative of someone who relies on their phone as a primary browsing tool.

Not implying that you do btw, I just thought I would color my experience with Firefox. I live largely on Desktop and see my phone as a secondary experience so I excuse a lot of this because I get a Native Add-on experience that isn't addressed by Android's Chrome.

Would you care to expand?

I've been using Firefox on Android for years and haven't noticed a lack of polish. However, I am genuinely curious what I am missing out on.

You can also do this with memories.

I've been asking Claude to remember important points from our session, or future tasks. Then /clear and continue.

Re:It's a shame what's happened to radio on Tuesday July 21, 2026 @10:44PM (#49001201)
Good radio died in the mid 80s.

Most people today can hardly remember when radio was curated live. Perhaps if you were near a small station you might have had the experience. Most major markets were completely corporate by the early 90s.

I know, my first career pick was radio, and by the time I was in college at a college radio station in the late 90s. That career path was dead unless I wanted to be in marketing or sales, which I had no interest in.

Little factoid about my username, it was my pirate station call letters from when I was running my own small station with a hand built FM transmitter in the 90s.

I am quite heavily in AI, and I would say I am pro AI. However this use-case for AI is putting AI in the wrong position. AI should be in service to all humans. An administrator building out a middle management KPI based on AI is a misapplication of AI.

Hospital systems are incentivized to avoid the real problems with healthcare. People want timeliness and they want quality care which hospital systems are not incentivized towards in the US. The incentives are profit, which given budgets means corners cut.

Triaging is an opaque system to the patient. It's an important process to doll out finite resources but it also very frustrating to be told, "soon" when you've been waiting 15 hours to see someone. Frankly, if I were King for a day, the first thing I would do is break up the monolithic hospital systems and build out more urgent care.

I would also try to find a way to facilitate transferring less critical patients from ERs to urgent care centers. Right now a hospital won't take the risk, especially if you are sitting in waiting room because beds are full. You can't easily punt a patient because them leaving would be against medical advice.

Re:Why Is Claude Turning into an a**Hole? on Sunday June 14, 2026 @07:32PM (#48534258)
Right but the difference is there is inertia you have to fight in an argument. By using /clear you remove all of the context that has built up to energize the argument from the LLM's side.

Look at it this way. I can either, keep trying to poke holes in the LLM's context with more prompts with no real guarantee that it won't be enough to remove the argument inertia that has built up in context on its side, or I can /clear and it is over in one turn because the inertia for the argument is all gone.

Back when I first started working with coding agents last year I fell into this arguing with the LLMs trap. I've found that it is a total waste of time because /clear ends the argument immediately. You don't even need to spend time trying to preempt it's views. Just re-prompt and 100% of the time, the LLM will just do the work.

Re:Why Is Claude Turning into an a**Hole? on Sunday June 14, 2026 @07:10PM (#48534007)
> but it's not arguing because there's no record of it in the chat?

Yes? Arguing implies I have to convince someone to believe something. I don't think anyone would consider it winning an argument if you do so by causing amnesia.

My job is to get work done, not argue with an LLM, if it refuses twice, it is time for a /clear.

100% of the time, the issue is resolved after a /clear.

Re:Why Is Claude Turning into an a**Hole? on Sunday June 14, 2026 @06:51PM (#48533822)
Nah, I just /clear

I refuse to argue with these machines. After a /clear I prompt it more appropriately/differently and the issue is settled.
