i.e. "any mason can build a brick house, but an architect will create an ugly box that no mason would ever have built".

I read the end of the first phrase as "Farm follows function!". Would not have been a bad typo.
As seen from Italy, Porco Rosso is... interesting. Someone looked at a lot of pictures, and then re-invented them in a way that is totally alien.
It's a fridge. Who knows what microcontroller CPU is there, and which toolchain they use.
Re:11 year old unsoundness bugs found in Rust borrow checker on Saturday October 17, 2026 @05:00AM (#50129231)
You got my reference. But the original comment stands at -1 points now, even mock criticism of C and Rust seems to be totally unappreciated by the bigots.
Some crow experts discourage feeding them because they can be a bit too much.

OTOH the Swiss Department of Agriculture says that there is nothing that actually works against corvids. You can scare them and you can make their life difficult, but they learn, and show others how to bypass issues (possibly on "Corvid News"), so they might lose some battle but will win the war.

And nobody in their right mind sleeps soundly at night.

Or we realize that it is not possible, and Rust accepts to be "just" a definitely safer C.
Re:A Modern Web App in C on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @04:39AM (#50068547)
Web apps work on input text and generate text, and C is not the most text-friendly language there is. There is a reason why early CGI-BINs were usually written in Perl.

(I won't even get started on the issues of creating new software in a language that is unsafe by design, and where any performance advantage will be dwarfed by the cost of forking. Whatever floats your boat, dude.)

Re:How to head into VR without wearing a headset on Sunday October 11, 2026 @06:33AM (#50041656)
I have some eye convergence issues, so maybe that's why. But my kids don't and they switched it off as well. Nice demo for the shop, though!
Re:How to head into VR without wearing a headset on Saturday October 10, 2026 @12:42PM (#50034608)
It was very nice, but very tiring after the first 5 minutes. So everybody I'm aware of switched it off in practice.

Every five years or so, VR gets to be the next hot thing. My first VR ride was on SGI Indigo, so it's been a while. Believers say we're almost there; I beg to be skeptical at this point.

The last part is incomplete but it reads like a report from an alien civilization.
Re:I spent $220 on Google app ads. 60% of the installs were robots on Saturday September 12, 2026 @09:48AM (#49672290)
I thought reddit would have been a sensible place to advertise our b2b product, that caters to a quite technical audience in a way that is not very friendly to Linkedin targeting.
Re:I spent $220 on Google app ads. 60% of the installs were robots on Saturday September 12, 2026 @01:39AM (#49669229)
We had a similar issue with Reddit, spent $500 and got a lot of clicks - none of them ever did anything else, not even by mistake. When we reported this behavior to Reddit, the rep who helped us set up the campaign just vanished. No answer. After a while, another rep came out and asked if we were interested in advertising on Reddit. Explained the situation and... poof! this other rep disappeared too.

My feeling is that this is systemic, and basically it's the very business model. I remember the first account explaining how the initial budget should be a few thousand dollars, so that "the AI could target effectively". It did target effectively - our wallet.

You mean, they too used SMTP?

I'm sure it was posted previously, but it's always nice to read.

The first post seems to be from 16 years ago: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1372371

Re:Why thinking out loud with someone beats thinking alone on Thursday June 18, 2026 @02:35AM (#48581568)
I find it very useful to talk to my dog. When I have a problem I'm banging my head against, just explaining it to him from first principles makes my head "click". When that works, his dog treats are billed as "consulting".

The point is not launching companies, is making money with them.

Re:Belgium stops decommissioning nuclear power plants on Friday May 01, 2026 @03:56AM (#47972288)
This is now. But the seeds were sown much earlier.
Re:Belgium stops decommissioning nuclear power plants on Friday May 01, 2026 @03:54AM (#47972276)
The anti-nuclear area, at least in Western Europe, had historically a very high correlation with those who held sympathies for a certain very large nuclear power who would have strategically benefited from an anti-nuke sentiment that would avoid another nuclear power's weapon deployment in EU bases. But I'm sure it is a coincidence.
