Salary of a UI/UX designer at a startup?

I'm about to graduate from college with a Biology degree but I've been doing design work and UI for clients since I was a kid. I am extremely comfortable designing interfaces and experiences and I see quite a lot of job openings in San Francisco (I live about an hour away anyway).I'm thinking of actually pursuing this as a career, and I always see the same thing: Full-salary + benefits +...

Great points! This is the type of feedback I was looking for.

Good input. As a college student as well, I wouldn't expect any of my peers to attend something like this for free either.

I believe the key to this, however, lies in a good business model that pays the students for their time and input. Many students are strapped on time, but I'd be willing to wager even more are strapped on cash.

Ultimately, my concern at the moment is not whether students would be interested, but whether startups would be interested. What do you think?

An Easier Way for Startups to Reach College Students?

I randomly had this idea the other day and instead of pursuing it aimlessly I wanted to know if there was a legitimate need for this and if people would actually pay for it.I have very good connections with student groups and student leaders in colleges all across the United States. The logic was: college students tend to be a great demographic for a lot (not all) startups. They are, in...

Ask HN: Any Solutions to the "Porn Problem"?

I have a close friend who claims to be 'addicted' to internet pornography. He has been trying to find software or any service to help prevent access to these types of websites. In his search, he has found that all the one's out on the market are quite easy to bypass and are usually built with a "parent administrator" in mind. He approached me to see if I knew of any software or could build...

Has anyone ever purchased stocks early on for a startup that went IPO? Is this a wise thing to do?

Enabling them to become a better and more effective business. It has to do with better connecting them with their customers.

How much to charge a big business?

My partner and I are having trouble determining pricing models for big businesses. We've gotten in touch with businesses that have expressed early interest and have annual revenues of ~10+ billion.Does anyone on HN have big business customers or have any valuable experience behind dealing with them? We don't know how much to charge or how often to charge (monthly, annually, etc) we just have...

Private vs Public Beta

My partner and I are ready to launch a beta version of our startup. The thing is, this has taken a lot longer than expected, and we want to get this out there as soon as possible. My question is, what are the pro's and con's of a private or public beta? Why do people advise against public betas?

Re:Ask HN: Par Value, what do think? on Saturday November 13, 2010 @12:10AM (#1900351)
I thought it was because the more par value you put on your stocks, the more its going to cost you during incorporation.

FYI: My company has 10,000,000 stocks valued at .01 a share, it cost $94 total [Delaware C-corp].
