Re:Five advanced Git merge techniques on Sunday March 31, 2013 @08:46AM (#5468504)
rerere (`git config --global rerere.enabled true`) is a useful configuration that allows you to record the merge resolution. Especially useful when rebasing a branch several times to follow upstream or when working with a long-lived feature branch that you wish to ensure applies cleanly. It makes following rebases / merges much quicker.

Re:The Homomorphic Encryption patent land rush on Thursday April 05, 2012 @08:30AM (#3802254)
Granted, I am neither a patent expert nor a homomorphic encryption expert, but how is this patentable since homomorphic encryption is just a mathematical formula?

From Wikipedia [1]: Homomorphic encryption is a form of encryption where a specific algebraic operation performed on the plaintext is equivalent to another (possibly different) algebraic operation performed on the ciphertext

Re:Rebuild of the Debian archive with clang on Wednesday February 29, 2012 @12:57PM (#3648857)
It does not necessarily have to be distro-agnostic.

Debian packages can already hook the upstream's test suite (e.g. via dh_auto_test).

From my (extremely limited and mostly dynamic language) Debian packaging experience, it seems that more often than not, packages do not use this existing hook. Not sure why that is though.

Re:Survival Guide:IRC on Tuesday January 10, 2012 @03:15PM (#3448786)
Up to this point, Whispernet gets relatively little traffic per-device (initial book download being the biggest bandwidth use). While there is the experimental browser in the Kindle, it had limited functionality and is fairly well hidden. With the introduction of Video on Demand and full web browsing in the Fire, I'm sure Amazon's 3G provider is hesitant to allow lifetime access to their network for a one time fee of $50.
Re:Introducing Amazon Silk on Wednesday September 28, 2011 @12:07PM (#3048560)
It sounds like Amazon is a effectively a man-in-the-middle.

Hopefully the device-to-Amazon connection is secured by Amazon, but I can not find any details.

The privacy implications of all SSL traffic being decrypted on AWS are a bit scary.

I am guessing the end user will never see broken SSL certificate warnings (as you would expect in a regular browser), since Amazon can add a "Amazon MITM" root CA certificate to the browser.

Re:Introducing Amazon Silk on Wednesday September 28, 2011 @11:44AM (#3048430)
From the FAQ [1]:

    What about handling secure (https) connections?
    We will establish a secure connection from the cloud to the site owner on your behalf for page requests of sites using SSL (e.g. https://siteaddress.com).

    Amazon Silk will facilitate a direct connection between your device and that site. Any security provided by these particular sites to their users would still exist.

+1 on MobileOrg.

There is an Android port (https://github.com/matburt/mobileorg-android/wiki/) that is nearly identical to the iOS version as far as I can tell from using them both.

Re:Flask 0.7 Released (Python Web Framework) on Tuesday June 28, 2011 @12:26PM (#2706002)
Along the lines of http://flask.pocoo.org/docs/patterns/mongokit/, I have a MONGODB_DATABASE setting, which is set to my normal database name. Then access the database via the connections' dictionary syntax, instead of attribute syntax (I have a helper method to make this prettier):

  connection[app.config['MONGODB_DATABASE']].mycollection.find_one()

The unittest code just modifies the setting:

  import unittest
  def setUp(self):
    myapp.app.config['MONGODB_DATABASE'] = 'test'
    self.app = myapp.app.test_client()

  def tearDown(self):
    # can clean up here, e.g.
    connection.test.drop_collection('mycollection')
Re:Flask 0.7 Released (Python Web Framework) on Tuesday June 28, 2011 @11:47AM (#2705828)
http://flask.pocoo.org/docs/testing/

For testing a MongoDB database, I wrote a simple unittest.TestCase subclass that in the setUp and tearDown, creates and then deletes a test database.

It was a ton of fun and a great chance to learn about node.js.

My team made a simple file sharing application, http://nodeknockout.com/teams/done-js. Our app does not host the upload, it merely connects the sharer to clients over HTTP.

Re:Going for a trot on the Django pony on Tuesday February 09, 2010 @03:46PM (#1113251)
I can't find a reference to it, but I recall one of the developers mentioning that the current multi-db support lays the ground work necessary for sharding.

I would bet that once 1.2 is released at least several reusable apps pop up that implement various sharding/partitioning strategies.
