to be fair, every country i've visited/lived in pales in comparison to Germany when it comes to environmental friendliness.

yup. i'd be willing to bet that the guy who ordered it can be found in Mr. Saleh's follower/following list on instagram.

Sure, I didn't mean to sound like I am stomping on the Dream. What I meant was, how specifically did this family that came from poverty accumulate $300k?

Quick research says that Mike Bezos worked as an engineer for Exxon after graduating college, and saving that money wisely can add up to $300k.

I don't know much about Jeff Bezos so I try to reserve my judgement about him. But I am confused - how does one come from a poor family and then receive a $300k loan from said family?

Hopefully Germany will do the same with the Bust of Nefertiti.

+1 for being a rad dad. I built a box when I was younger with my dad. Fun times.

I used to do this, but I've found that having a little bit of social accountability helps more than having absolutely zero. I like to play mysterious and make small morsels of what I work on public as time goes on

I'm sorry that my mind is in the gutter but the email reads "Solo Fap" to me, you may want to consider changing it because there are probably plenty of other lonely 20-somethings whose minds are also in the gutter

I've been working on an audiovisual project that gets data directly from Ableton Live and feeds it into my THREE.js app. You can see a couple of demos here:

Great project! I've been doing this manually on HN and found the predictions I was tracking to be totally wrong. Please continue on this project, I'm not a movie critic but I give this project two whole thumbs up.

No idea on how to prepare, but one of my colleagues is blind and is one of the most detail-oriented backend engineers we have. One thing I've learned from him is that Apple products are MUCH less accessible than PC.

i don't work for any of these sites but i wanted to say thank you, just as a human

i learned how to read sheet music and play my favorite pieces thanks to this site. i hope it sticks around for the long-term

thank you for being one out of exactly 10 people on HN with a sense of humor i appreciate you

and then an american will patent it and sell it for hundreds at the consumer level

god bless the us :')

how did you know my nationality? did you extrapolate the fact that i'm from the USA from my dumbass-ery?

because you're right and i respect your judgemental ability ;)

a world where we trust napkin math for fatality rates is a world i don't want to live in

(before you downvote, please appreciate the subtle dark pun)

(very messy) code https://github.com/johnmarinelli/digital-harmony

i didn't mention it in the video, but the new react-three-fiber library has also been a huge help in this project

thanks! :)

Very cool. I lurked your site and also found the "Instant Gratifications" project and loved it.

The core of the issue is the problem of colonial mentality. I suppose we would all like to brush it under the rug by saying it's difficult to pin down who really "discovered" Ebola, but I think this only perpetuates and helps internalise colonialism. I think a more clear cut case on the issue how the music industry ripped off Chuck Berry and repackaged him as Elvis Presley.

The more we ignore and "justify" the issue with intellectualism, the farther away we all get from a real solution.

I'm guessing it's the general aesthetic that makes it surrealist

But hey, that's just a guess

Same here. Clever ideas reduced to an expressive and surreal form

Exactly my thoughts while reading most of the posts in this thread

digital - freenode, in person - hackerspaces. try googling hackerspaces in in your town/city. if there aren't any, start your own.

A few months ago, I requested a 32 hour work week at my job. I took the appropriate paycut (I'm a single bachelor that doesn't spend much anyway). Instead of a 4-day workweek, I do ~6.5 hours for 5 days. It's been great and I couldn't recommend it more.

edit - I should add that I started the job at 40 hours/week, and after 1 year of being there I asked for 32 hours/week.

The desert can be a beautiful place. Look up Sedona or Antelope Valley in Arizona.

I grew up in San Bernardino County and never knew about this valuable info, thanks internet stranger!
