TAU is doing some interesting research: https://www.aftau.org/press-release---vapor
I found this interesting: "Our study revealed a universal law: Conservation of Brain Connectivity," Prof. Assaf concludes. "This law denotes that the efficiency of information transfer in the brain's neural network is equal in all mammals, including humans. We also discovered a compensation mechanism which balances the connectivity in every mammalian brain. This mechanism ensures that high connectivity in a specific area of the brain, possibly manifested through some special talent (e.g. sports or music) is always countered by relatively low connectivity in another part of the brain. In future projects we will investigate how the brain compensates for the enhanced connectivity associated with specific capabilities and learning processes."
I think "start-stop nonsense" is referring to push button ignitions

The Potato Hack agrees with you https://potatohack.com/
I keep this on a small card in my office:

SYSTEMS

INBOX ZERO - Delete, Delegate, Respond, Defer, Do

ALWAYS BE KNOLLING - Put away tools, group like objects, align to surfaces

FOCUS - Work on one thing

FAST TASK SWITCHING - Work on the top of the heap

PERMISSION TO FAIL - Persist for 15 minutes

Continuous Improvement by SUBTRACTION

WRITE IT DOWN to relieve pressure

STRATEGIC PROCRASTINATION - Ignore your big audacious goal

I thought it of great interest that he was open enough to share that he uses Goodreader on his iPad.
Re:How do keys work? Explained in one Gif on Tuesday January 22, 2013 @06:38PM (#5100386)
On residential locks the tolerances on each pin's traveling cylinder are loose enough to allow you to apply shearing force on the pin by holding the lock tight (as if trying to open it) and quickly bump each pin up so they land on the salient edge of the entire cylinder block and avoid dropping back into a locking position.

This design is a good visual for why lock bumping is fairly easy on most residential locks.

Why wait for the dishes? The beauty of mindfulness can manifest itself wonderfully in office work. Shut out the distractions from your mind; then the clack of the keyboard, the feel of your desk, and the flow of code, can fill your senses as well.

I hit enter and I still get Google.
Re:The Automatic CSS Inliner Tool on Wednesday June 20, 2012 @04:16PM (#4138891)
Now all you need is the inverse of this to fix the mass overuse of inline styles.

At my (admittedly meager) 1024x768, between browser and now the google groups redesign, ui area takes up almost half of the upper space before any content is shown.

The similarity between http://robohash.org/yes

and http://robohash.org/no

is striking.

If you just lost your appetite for the entire day when you saw the single shot on that video, you are not alone.
This is uncool. So I have an Android 1.6 phone. I use Twidroyd and the named alternative, the official Twitter app is for devices on Android 2.1 or later. I also have no plans to change my phone for at least another year. Maybe that's just me, but I doubt it.

Above all I think the greatest thing about DDG is the direct forwarding to UPS when I submit a UPS tracking number. No clicking. No need to enter the number again. It just goes straight where I need to be. I use this 50 times a day and it's wonderful, and it probably doesn't benefit DDG at all but it's great for me.
Re:Google algorithm change launched on Friday January 28, 2011 @12:45PM (#2152716)
I ran across this list just now on sites that may be using SO content: http://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/24611/is-it-legal-to...
Re:Google algorithm change launched on Friday January 28, 2011 @12:38PM (#2152692)
Wow, you learn a lot around here if you're paying attention! I often wondered whether or not my results were being personalized. Good to know.
Re:Google algorithm change launched on Friday January 28, 2011 @12:31PM (#2152659)
I think that would be a dangerous precedent to set. Whose opinion should decide what sites add value to content that may not be completely original? I'm not saying efreedom is not "being evil", but I could foresee someone somewhere using another's original content and making it more accessible. For example someone could easily improve the accessibility of the content from experts-exchange.com.
Re:Google Labs: Books Ngram Viewer on Thursday December 16, 2010 @06:16PM (#2014314)
I think overuse of the word "cool" might finally be heading downward. And it's interesting to see the blips in the 70's and 80's of "groovy" and "rad" respectively.

Re:"Rate My Startup" Post Policy on Tuesday November 02, 2010 @05:50PM (#1862520)
I don't have a startup but dreams of doing it dance in my head. After reading this and realizing that I could miss out on the benefits of the hn community when the time comes because I've just lurked for the past 700 days, I'm logging in now to get more involved. Not sure if that's the result @pg would like to see, but that's how this policy strikes me. Hopefully others like me can figure out when to lurk and when to speak.
