Re:Processing in Memory: DRAM Is About to Do Math on Friday August 28, 2026 @10:19PM (#49486310)
I have been reading about this for the last 25 years. So, yea, in another 25 years "this will be a thing".

"you are already rebooked" -- they were fab.
Re:Let's Buy Spirit Air on Sunday May 03, 2026 @11:29PM (#48004312)
When your flights are delayed/resechduled there is a world of difference. "Get in line" vs "you are already rebooked". (my Air Canada experince.)

Think you might like to read "Adrift: America in 100 Charts" by Scott Galloway. He covers the impact of babyboomers on America.

Re:Curate Your Shell History on Friday June 06, 2025 @11:56AM (#44202126)
I have most of my shell history back to 2005(?). Each terminal gets its own new history file.

99% of the time, I never look at it, but when I do need to look at it, it has been great. My boss once asked me: "What args and screening file did we use when we made that one-off DB 4 months ago?" Was able to check and confirm it was correct. Or for personal use: "Where did I move that folder of pictures?"

I have been happy with Kagi -- Like that I can change the site rankings on the results.
For those who would like to read more about staying in power as a dictator, or for that matter any kind of political leader, I found "The Dictator's Handbook: Why Bad Behavior is Almost Always Good Politics" [1] a good read on the topic.

Of note is the required number of supporters can be quite low when you have a government supported by resource extraction.

Re:Valve Steam Deck on Thursday July 15, 2021 @06:57PM (#27851079)
I think this is why starlink will sell well.

Rural users are sick of slow speeds, and in low density areas there should be enough bandwidth for starlink to work well.

Dont know how starlink would handle a city-full of users; Think that is something we are looking forward to finding out.

In one of the other videos, you can see a 3 by 3 sized platform with the same wheel setup - it has a platform for 1-2 people and a crane.

I imagine they set some sort of exclusion zone around the broken robot, then drive out in the large platform and pick it up.

Isnt it "127.0.0.1/8" which is allocated, not "127.0.0.1/24"?
I, for one, would be happy to see that package. Took a try at it awhile back and found it rather bumpy.
Re:OpenBSD Adds Support for Coordinated Mars Time (MTC) on Thursday April 01, 2021 @05:06PM (#26666033)
In the novel "A Deepness in the Sky" by Vernor Vinge, the characters tell time this way. I had to do some math early in the book to get a feel for what 1Msec & 1Gsec was.

In addition, they also keep track of their cold sleep time, because if you want to meet your spouse 50 years from now, you want to try and keep the same relative age.

But we only need to make one of them!
Re:The ZedRipper: Part 2 on Saturday January 02, 2021 @01:52PM (#25615284)
I ended up getting an Arty-A7 as I wanted to have an ethernet port. It arrived a couple weeks ago. Still getting the build and toolchain built.

My goal is an array of 6502s - It was when I was researching that idea and dev boards I found your posts.

Thank you for writing this up - as someone who is getting started with FPGAs, it is an inspiration.
Re:Nearly 12M Square Feet of Vacant Office Space in S.F on Sunday October 25, 2020 @07:45PM (#24891247)
I would agree that "people who care" are a good thing; However, I dont agree term limits achieve that.

Better than term limits would be an informed electorate who would vote for a new person once the old one stopped caring or being effective. I think limits are a poor bandaid.

Re:Tell HN: Never search for domains on Godaddy.com on Thursday September 17, 2020 @03:54PM (#24509189)
I had been unhappy with godaddy but not gotten around to moving - this news got me to move the week the story broke.

Went to easydns.com and been quite happy with them!

Re:Corsair Gaming S-1 on Saturday August 22, 2020 @01:11AM (#24241731)
Agreed - They are pretty easy to assemble these days. I used the pcpartpicker, like you, and had it done in an hour.

Unless you get case which is too small, and you have problems getting you hands in there.

Re:US travel firm $4.5M ransom negotiation open chat on Sunday August 02, 2020 @10:30PM (#24033647)
Kinda funny to see 1BTC sent to check it worked before they sent the rest. Cant undo it like a wire transfer...
I just had "Broken Earth" recommended to me from someone else as well. Guess that is going to the top of the list - thanks!

Left the East Bay a couple of years ago - I was very happy with LMI while I was there. Thumbs up for their service and staff.
I have been using them for my personal DNS for years - Been happy with them as well.
I enjoyed board games in my early years. YMMV.
Helps to find packages which I might have missed from other sources. LWN is good, but doesnt cover everything.
