No tools or forward passes are allowed

Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Friday October 30, 2026 @09:23AM (#50303538)
I think this is a shift for apple, they're not one to include 'gimmicks'
Re:MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display and Touch on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @02:37PM (#50278797)
Steve had been an outspoken critic of touchscreen laptops. It seems that none of his original gripes are addressed in this release. Another drop in the bucket of half-assed hardware releases from apple "our competitors have it so we need it too" (vision pro, new homepod thing, iphone duo, etc)
In openAI's case, I would say they sort of have, in the form of sora, ChatGPT Atlas, and coming hardware devices (with the OpenAI name for ownership / ego reasons for sama.) However this turned out to be bad for the company, moving away from core research, which until recently AI hasn't been able to accelerate greatly. so the marginal cost tradeoff (including things like valuation of OpenAI) probably favors focusing efforts purely on providing intelligence.

However openAI is a unique case and I think other companies (and people) will be pumping out more autonomous companies very, very soon, in industries where economics are different.

not sure why this is being compared to 2-generations old versions of qwen

Who's beating Anthropic here lol

Re:Apple HomeView on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @12:54PM (#50074837)
I can't put my finger on why exactly, but HomeView, iphone duo, and vision pro all seem like areas where apple could've innovated further, but didn't, and end up looking the same as existing hardware with apple software being the differentiator. Maybe other companies just started making hardware the way apple does, who knows. but these products feel very bland.

This should be flagged as an ad (Aren't you the founder?)
How is this even possible, I thought it was tracked via barcode? do they literally just sort everything by hand?

Re:OpenAI: Astra Model Is Nerfed on Saturday September 26, 2026 @10:00AM (#49856632)
The last time I used codex CLI it gave me a summary in Chinese lol (and the entire session was English)
How many eight-year-olds tutor themselves?
This is the biggest thing. The dumbest questions or sometimes the most important.
disagree- i used it for the last few years of coursework preparing for exams. If you give it context (i'm studying for an exam, do not give hints unless asked, your objective is to help my understanding) it is incredibly helpful. This isn't advice, it's a company going out of business.
Good. Raspberry pi foundation thinks making $200 computers is progress, hope they get their lunch eaten
Re:iPod Classic 6G in QEMU on Friday September 11, 2026 @09:53AM (#49658475)
Seems to be 100% implemented. Very cool
Re:On the Navier–Stokes Millennium Prize Problem on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @01:47PM (#49613863)
Had no idea this was what lean looked like- that's mind blowing. I'm not even sure how someone would critique this if they wanted to

Here's the formalization / lean verification: https://github.com/openai/NavierStokesAndEuler
Re:We Must Return to the Office to Use AI in Person on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @10:41AM (#49611008)
AI could never write this
Could also be due to the fact that every codex install includes a copy of libreoffice

Lol github copilot 5 years late
Re:Quasar 438B: Europe's Leading AI Model on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @09:58AM (#49536358)
That made me laugh out loud
Re:GPU World on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @01:56PM (#49525407)
I appreciate their AI usage policy and agree with it
Yeah good example of this also with the agent stuff they are pushing now, documentation can read to be sales-like and then as you start using it stuff starts to fall apart. At this point there are better open source alternatives (self-hosting) for pretty much anything not requiring specialized hardware
Re:Forward-deployed engineer: a $247k to $552k salary jump on Friday August 28, 2026 @10:36AM (#49479165)
FDE = Builder. AI allows engineers to also own delivery. Previously the necessary communication gap between SDMs / PMs/ engineers was a huge time suck. With AI much of it is eliminated and a single FDE can get it all done.
