I have hit so many issues and limitations on GitLab which is just simply possible on GitHub. Here's a few of my rants with GitLab
1. The smallest unit of action on GitLab is a whole job, on GitHub, that's a task. So all of the actions or templated files can perform a single task instead of a whole job. This granularity is incredibly useful and lets my team create a catalog of actions that our downstream teams can simply include and compose it over a variety of tools and frameworks.
2. You cannot share secrets between jobs. This was just outright ridiculous when it meant that in each new job you have to fetch an STS token even though the token from a previous job would suffice. So much repetition. When you have a template like fetching AWS credentials using OIDC, that's the only thing you can do. Hence proving point 1.
3. Multiple workflow files instead of a single `.gitlab.yml` with a scrambled mess of rules
4. Dynamic services, in GitHub it is effortless to build a matrix AND have services spun up from it. The amount of duplication this reduces is insane.
name: Test Actions
on:
push:
branches:
- main
jobs:
preTest:
runs-on: ubuntu-latest
outputs:
services: ${{ steps.services.outputs.serviceJson }}
steps:
- uses: actions/checkout@v3
- run: echo "serviceJson=$(cat .github/workflows/demo.json | jq -c)" >> "$GITHUB_OUTPUT"
id: services
shell: bash
test:
runs-on: ubuntu-latest
needs: [preTest]
services: ${{ fromJson(needs.preTest.outputs.services ) }}
steps:
- run: echo "Hello"
shell: bashThis was what I believed, then I saw how pretty much ALL of my friends at Fortune 100s or 500s and they were amazing. I am sure awful companies exist and the bar for what is good WLB can be lowered by these, but the whole "it is bad everywhere" was simply not true and I felt I had a distorted vision of my Indian friends until I actually visited a lot of them.
My so works at a reinsurance company in one of these GCCs, and her WLB is unmatched. Hours are really flexible. Has a really great manager and team. She even gets to take a day off every month as menstrual leave.
> work lot more hours for lot less pay,
This depends, while the vast majority of roles pay "market rate" there is a strange sweet spot where roles pay a significant amount considering purchasing power and cost of living.

> the sequel trailer got me into the first game, actually
similarly the first game got me into Alan Wake, and now onto Alan Wake II
I was 14 and I would go down to the street to fetch ground water and fill those barrels up. This was in 2014.
Everytime I'm connected to my home WiFi I would randomly get `peer closed connection in SSL handshake (104: Connection reset by peer)`. I have absolutely no clue why it does this and this issue goes away when I'm connected on mobile data.
Now I'm guessing that it is bypassing the DNS profile and resolving it using my ISPs DNS or some other way.
I guess one other thing you could say is, I don't know if it's just me in my head, but I always feel that the cursor movement in MacOS is silky smooth.
I never run docker commands by itself unless it’s really simple. Simply whip up a docker compose file and aliasing compose works pretty well for me.

There is also Redshift.
huh well. stuff like this just makes me very insecure at times.
My partner is Swedish but she was born in Hungary I'm currently a resident of Australia but originally from India and plan to move to Sweden sometime later. Both of us speak Swedish are fairly integrated into the culture.
Maybe you're implying that only x% of the population must be born outside, non-ethnical Swedes.

1. Variables / Dynamic Variables
2. GraphQL introspection
3. Pre/Post request scripts
4. Collection Runner
Postman is pretty expensive for larger teams.
That makes it horrible to collaborate because then you’d just be sharing giant JSON files which can easily go out of sync between multiple people.
Ask HN: Linux IPv4 and IPv6 ports article
A while ago I read an article that explained IPV4, IPV6 and ports through two students having a conversation in a cafe as they were doing their assignment.I have lost the link to it and I would really like to visit that against. Does anyone have a link to that article?
