Will it be worth it? If you've ever been inside a long term care home, you know that there's no dignity left after 70 or so.
Re:Why the fuck are you going to the King’s coronation? on Saturday May 06, 2023 @09:23AM (#35841141)
Because not everyone is an angry child that wants to hit back at his parents by destroying tradition.
Vaguely reassuring.
Re:Bluesky is starting to feel like Twitter on Saturday April 29, 2023 @11:22AM (#35753777)
I suppose if it's invite only you can keep the rabble and anyone with different opinions out.
Re:The joy and freedom of harmlessly upsetting social norms on Saturday April 29, 2023 @11:14AM (#35753692)
Spoken like a person incapable of self-regulation that needs external rules to function.
Re:The DVD’s demise leaves many films gone with the wind on Saturday April 29, 2023 @11:12AM (#35753663)
Not at all; My comment was entirely facetious. I'm opposed to destroying the past to appease the present. That's why I scour used bookstores for older copies of challenged books. I've had to add Roald Dahl recently, but someone has to remember the past.
What would Kant say about this?
If everyone is so determined, perhaps we can start by halting all meat exports and sanctions on countries that import meat.
Just makes it easier to dismiss them as offensive relics of an oppressive white supremacist patriarchy. No-one under 40 is going to miss what they don't want to know about.
Re:When did mass layoffs become so normal? on Tuesday April 25, 2023 @07:52AM (#35699199)
When employers realized that there will always be someone desperate enough to do the job for cheaper.
Re:You Should Be Worried About Substack on Friday April 21, 2023 @08:00AM (#35652458)
You should be worried about random people on the internet telling you how to think.
Only because the jargon in the title told me nothing about what the article was about, and I thought to save other people from wasting their time by telling them what NAFLD stood for.
“All the resources we’re talking about are finite resources. As much as people looking for investors want to talk about space being infinite and there being infinite resources, these are finite, limited resources, they’re not going to last forever,” Nesvold said.
"The efficacy and safety of time-restricted eating (TRE) on nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) remain uncertain."
They do, and their only care is how it's going to disproportionately affect self-identified victims of oppression and drag queens.
Fair enough; I guess I don't pay him that much attention.
Re:Men's vs. Women's Razors on Tuesday April 18, 2023 @02:47PM (#35618194)
If there's no difference, why don't women just opt for the cheaper razors, even if they are mens? Manufacturers only maintain products so long as they sell, and if they can convince gullible people to keep paying, well, that's business. There's a sucker born every minute.
I don't think it was necessarily a sex joke. They objected to being labelled 70% government-funded, so he kindly revised it downward by a whole 1%. Still a troll, though not undeserved. CBC is entirely an arm of the federal government, and wildly biased to the left.
Kinda the point of a horror film. It's also an older film; they could have looked up content warnings.
OMG. I didn't believe it, but it's true. Who could possibly be nostalgic for that?
Re:Spanish climber emerges after 500 days in cave on Friday April 14, 2023 @01:12PM (#35571956)
She's the type of person you want to send to Mars.
Re:Employee Asked to Go Remote, Job Outsourced to India on Thursday April 13, 2023 @11:27AM (#35556940)
Similar to auto workers unions pricing their members out of competition until the jobs get sent out of the country. You can only push employers so far before they realize that everyone is replaceable.
Re:What Archaeology Is Telling Us About the Real Jesus on Friday April 07, 2023 @12:51PM (#35483873)
The current church of woke is the finest example you could ask for. Trump learned from the best.
Delightful. Having daily exposure from birth to age nineteen, I've often wondered how badly that affected me developmentally. It would explain a lot.
It'll be fine when the housing price drops to $1 for some people.
I asked it a question without indicating which position was mine and which was my wife's, and it still agreed with her, dammit.
Re:The Reddit Mods/Moderation Is Out of Control on Monday March 20, 2023 @05:42PM (#35239190)
Almost as bad as the pissy downvoters here.
Re:Apple Pay Launches in South Korea on Monday March 20, 2023 @05:41PM (#35239177)
Skimming headlines, I had a nasty moment when I saw "launches" and "Korea" in the same sentence. Whew.
