You worry about your own problems, and they'll worry about theirs.

This guy has no conception how government works. The Olympics is a
sports franchise like any other, selling a brand name for advertising
dollars.
Re:Kelsey Hightower: If governments rely on FOSS, they should fund it
on Sunday September 22, 2024 @06:03PM (#41620462)
You've got it backwards. If a FOSS dev needs money, he should stop
being FOSS. Don't throw your jacket on a puddle and expect the girl to
put out.

I'll eat crow if wrong, but I'm guessing I know more about GNU make than you do. It is none of the four things you claim. Also, people who say "on the tin" need a good ass-kicking.

Is the presentation bird alive or dead? What is "fired" in this
context? Is the presentation bird unrested? What does "rested" mean in
this context? Why does the kitchen need to "butcher" the chicken that's
"rested"? Doesn't that mean the rested chicken is still alive? What
does "slowing" the other, presumably presentation, chicken mean?

Re:Ask HN: Is Lisp the Linux of Languages?
on Monday September 02, 2024 @09:47PM (#41430424)
No, as a functional language, the predicate unambiguously comes first.
Re:Ask HN: Is Lisp the Linux of Languages?
on Monday September 02, 2024 @06:06PM (#41429172)
No, lisp is not the Linux of languages. Steve Yegge sums it up "Every
single non-standard extension, everything not in the spec, is 'wrong'
with Common Lisp. This includes any support for threads, filesystem
access, processes and IPC, operating system interoperability, a GUI,
Unicode, ..."
And to answer your last question, no, lisp cannot read like English since predicate precedes subject a la Yodaspeak.
Re:Ask HN: Is closed-source software inherently evil?
on Thursday August 22, 2024 @10:51AM (#41320954)
No, intellectual property is as evil as nuclear codes, Coke, or Disney.
The free software zealots started out as normal guys looking to save a
buck and only later came to justify their cheapness with some insane
moral legerdemain.
Pay-for closed-source is profitable for about a week. Then some asshole
offers a shittier but free facsimile and community contributions render
it good enough to kill the original.

You've dedicated your adult life to massaging ABIs and openly admit your
"non-polished" solution is an idealistic holy grail, and yet you expect
some text editor with a non-existent path to profitability to have hewn
to your every private thought about Linux binary versatility, and that
sir is bullshit.
