Some people on Twitter have jokingly suggested that the Iranians were looking for the maker of the Stryker military vehicle.

Why should the package's original language matter?

When I use apt-get, I have no idea what languages the packages were written in.

So? This sounds like a good thing.

If it isn't, then voters should vote for the opposite policy--allowing the airlines to stop working whenever they want.

Not to be even more persnickety, but "Unauthorized incoming traveler" was also used in earlier seasons, including in the episode with Charlie and the Reetou.
Re:Claude Memory on Sunday October 26, 2025 @09:58PM (#45716642)
No, I don't need ChatGPT's help for the basics of air defense.

Military technologies are validated before deployed. Nobody can die from a hallucination.

But if I want to understand, say, how a particular Russian drone works, ChatGPT can help me piece together information from English, Russian, and Ukrainian-language sources.

But sometimes ChatGPT's safety filter thinks I want to use the Russian drone instead of stopping it, in which case it doesn't want to help.

Re:Claude Memory on Thursday October 23, 2025 @03:49PM (#45686186)
I work for a company in the air defense space, and ChatGPT's safety filter sometimes refuses to answer questions about enemy drones.

But as I warm up the ChatGPT memory, it learns to trust me and explains how to do drone attacks because it knows I'm trying to stop those attacks.

I'm excited to see Claude's implementation of memory.

Re:Show HN: Graphite – Stacked Diffs on GitHub on Tuesday September 19, 2023 @12:24PM (#37572288)
Graphite and stacked diffs are awesome! I really miss Phabricator from my time at Uber, and I've been sad ever since that nobody had built a superior developer experience based on the same concepts.

I am LOOKING FOR A NEW JOB as a backend / full-stack software engineer.

I have 10 years of experience. I've founded 2 startups and worked at places like Uber and the US Government.

My top open source projects:

- https://babycat.io , a Rust library for decoding and manipulating audio files--with bindings for C, Python, and WebAssembly.

- https://www.scalarstop.com , a framework for keeping track of machine learning experiments.

- https://provose.com , a new way to manage your Amazon Web Services infrastructure. You describe the containers, databases, and filesystems that you want to deploy, and Provose automatically calculates the necessary security and networking configuration. Built with HashiCorp Terraform.

Re:I Quit My Job to Live on Donations to Zig (2018) on Tuesday June 07, 2022 @01:04PM (#31657251)
I do not understand your comment. If he were rich, then he would not be living on donations.

I think Zig is awesome, btw. Andrew deserves to make a lot more money.

I don't know. The aliens could be some type of insect with entire classes of workers that can never stop working.

Maybe they think about how to justify their working arrangements to us humans.

On the other hand, it is very good that the plant operated flawlessly for 50 years.
Re:1x Engineer on Tuesday May 31, 2022 @09:33AM (#31569262)
Now, someone needs to make a similar website for the 0.1x engineer.
Why not use something like Cloudflare as a caching layer between you and Google?
Re:A Rust match made in hell on Saturday April 30, 2022 @03:25PM (#31218513)
Which systems language do you recommend?

You choose not to chat with your friend group?
I don't disagree with you. You should argue with the comment I replied to.
That is not guaranteed to terminate your obligation to pay a vendor.

People on Hacker News love discussing how to secure their information, but it's not clear if they have anything worth stealing.
Re:We lost 54k GitHub stars on Thursday April 14, 2022 @06:56PM (#31034486)
This is a well-written blog post describing a real issue with GitHub's privacy mechanism.

But it is also a little silly for the blog post to show graphs extrapolating the hypothetical number of GitHub stars several years into the future. Their graphs' X-axis goes up to 2028.

The name is "Google (Cloud Print)"

not "(Google Cloud) Print"

But this situation is about war crimes and human rights.

Do you think the Ukrainians feel differently?

Yes.
You would tell the Russians to continue the genocide?
Putin says that he is invading Ukraine to fight Nazis. Everybody hates the Nazis, but Putin's war is still wrong.

Similarly, everybody hates imperialism, and Putin's war is still wrong. It doesn't change what actions we must take to stop Putin.

I don't think a natural gas tariff would kill anybody in Brussels. Not a single person.

But if burnt corpses start piling up in Brussels, I'll come back to this thread and admit to being wrong.

But it's a tariff on revenue that goes to Russian oil companies--all of whom have close ties to Putin's administration.

Again, I can't speak for Ukraine, but I think their policy position is clear. It's not like the Ukrainians are saying, "Russian oil is great! Everybody buy it now!"

So do you support taking action against the Russian military's genocide or not?
From your perspective, is the Russian military doing a good thing or a bad thing?

If they are doing something bad, should they avoid punishment?

Why do you ask?

Do you believe invading militaries should not be opposed?

Or do you see the Russian military as the good guy here?
