Re:I don't need to work anymore. Thanks Uber! on Friday October 12, 2018 @05:36PM (#18204885)
It feel amazing putting all my capital to help advance the transportation technology of a whole city. Truly amazing!

I just started hacking Argentina laws

I few days ago I had the idea to buy like 500 of these:https://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA-718553950-posnet-mercadopago-bluetooth-inalambrico-point-_JMAnd give them for free to all Ubers drivers of Buenos Aires, Argentina. So they can bypass the restriction on receiving money with the Credit card/Debit card.I believe that, 500 people talking about a random guy give them the stuff for free...

Re:Elementary OS Loki 0.4 Stable Release on Friday September 09, 2016 @08:45PM (#12467081)
I used elemeentary os at work for a while.

Looked great at the first view.

Months after using it became a living hell to work with it.

The delay between app switches is a shit.

Swiched to GNOME/Debian. Never looked back.

Re:GNU Make Jobserver Implementation on Monday April 25, 2016 @08:18AM (#11563723)
GNU make is one of the most complete task manager I have seem.

But there are a few major problems with it:

Newies often complain a lot about the esoteric syntax.

It's written in C.

It doesn't gets updated as fast as it should.

These points make it not very suitable for our current time.

I belive we all just need to pick something like gulp and port the "good parts" into it.

There is no point in having 20 tools that do the same!

Re:Announcing Apache Flink 1.0.0 on Wednesday March 09, 2016 @12:10PM (#11254150)
This is something it bothers me a lot.

What they don't tell you is that in order to achieve "exactly once" delivery you need to have idempotent writes. For example inserting in a database using PKs.

Storm is pretty much dead. Spark, from my point of view, is the current forerunner.

It support mostly all use cases. Batch jobs. Streaming jobs. Work is being done to reduce the batch time to ms.

Comercial support is very good from the guys at Cloudera and Databricks.

My 2 cents. I hope It helps someone.

Re:Ask HN: Should I do industrial espionage? on Wednesday February 10, 2016 @06:28PM (#11077064)
Yes.

No, I'm trying to get intel on my bosses, and in the company future course of action.

I don't like to quit things.

Re:Ask HN: Should I do industrial espionage? on Wednesday February 10, 2016 @06:23PM (#11077031)
Haha. I like your style.
Re:Ask HN: Should I do industrial espionage? on Wednesday February 10, 2016 @06:23PM (#11077027)
Yes. I always compare the size of the challenge with my own capabilities. This is one of the methods that lead me to take action or not.

Ask HN: Should I do industrial espionage?

Hi all..I'm an engineer for a large software company.Lately I was promoted to "not a developer neither a team lead".They hired someone else to lead the team I'm in. Someone that is clearly lagging behind me in technical aspects. Now, what is really bothering me is that my lead and the people on top of her are keeping me at the shadows. They don't invite me on meetings. The fuckers don't even eat...

Re:Interview with Haiku developer Paweł Dziepak on Friday May 16, 2014 @10:26AM (#7755661)
BeOS was great.

All the hard work put on the icons and the GUI. It was truly remarkable.

If i'm not mistaken, I compiled my first C program on that OS.

Reading the SDK documentation was also a great source of ideas for a newbie in C++. I remember that the idea of flattenable objects blow my mind :D

To this day I still wonder why it hasn't gained more adoption.

Mad respect at all those folks working on Haiku!

Re:JSZip: Create, read and edit .zip files with JavaScript on Saturday April 19, 2014 @11:39PM (#7615755)
Some images formats already come with compression. Also, zip doesn't work with well with binary data. Using CSS to "subscript" into the sprite is a better solution.
JavaScript is a must.

Re:What does O(log n) mean, exactly? on Sunday May 26, 2013 @02:22PM (#5771931)
An important fact to take in account about Big-O is that it represent the upper bound of the time or space complexity.
Re:Why developers are leaving the Facebook platform on Tuesday April 23, 2013 @02:51AM (#5593657)
I was working on the social integration on a project. The hell that the backend coder and I went trying to make work the js sdk for facebook was just stupid. We ended using a python lib for facebook integration. A real shame such a big company releasing a crappy sdk.

Re:Y Combinator is funding the future of spam in Windows on Tuesday January 15, 2013 @09:30AM (#5060220)
It isn't. Since every library the application needs is inside the bundle, you load multiple versions of the same lib on memory. Also counting the installer, the bundle and Brew or MacPorts you have a tons of way to install an app.
