Re:Charles Tandy, the mastermind behind Radio Shack on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @09:57AM (#50352807)
My first home computer was a Tandy 2000, that's how old I am. It functioned for about 4 months.
Re:DiscImageStudio on Tuesday November 03, 2026 @08:33AM (#50351792)
Me but with notebooks. Not unique or interesting ones. All of them. I'm always worried about ruining the notebook by putting the wrong stuff in it so I just have an ever increasing collection of blank notebooks that I thought were definitely the one I would finally use.
I have the opposite problem. I have a very narrow, low bridge and glasses always sit too low. Plastic frames are a no-go because the sweet spot is like an inch below my eye line.
Well, that's unfortunate
Re:DoorDash to Acquire Instacart on Thursday October 29, 2026 @10:33AM (#50289760)
Instacart is also integrated with several stores. Kroger and Costco both use Instacart for their pickup and delivery services in their own apps.
I've been a user of Proton for a long time, over a decade, and this is seriously concerning to me. I already have a Tuta account and might just make the full switch.
Interesting to see how USAID in the title is like the bat signal for scumbags

FML. Can't get in to update our servers because of MFA and our director, who gets the codes, isn't in
Re:Upcoming Critical PHP Security Release on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @09:59AM (#50181097)
What steps can someone take to determine if they might have been hit?

So far, I have checked to see if any new files have been placed in our directories or if there have been any file changes. I've also looked at the access logs for unexpected POST requests.

Are there any other steps?

Re:Publish fake stats, get cited in LLMs on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @11:43AM (#50168113)
The other day I asked Gemini to evaluate if a Reddit post was true. It told me it was definitely true because it had been verified by legitimate news agencies that had reported on the incident. These "legitimate" news agencies were an AI aggregator that just had a direct summary of the post with a disclaimer that it wasn't independently verified and a yahoo news "article" that was just the same AI summary. The AI summary included hallucinations that weren't even part of the original reddit post (like giving the OP a gender when no genders were mentioned).

Generation ships with plasma sails, probably.
Re:Now That Information Is Free, What's a College Campus For? on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @11:52AM (#50073681)
Information may be free, but knowledge and wisdom still need to be cultivated

I checked in Firefox and Duckduckgo

I see 30 and a more button, even on a different browser incognito

I feel like it might be bamboo, but they sort of skipped over grasses

Plastic is a species?
As a former smoker (quit in 2009), I absolutely LOVED smoking. The whole thing. Opening the pack, packing it down, pulling out the cigarette, lighting it, the first drag filling my lungs, the fullness in my chest. The only thing I didn't like was that it made me smell bad. When I started a job where I was working close to people and the smell made me insecure, I decided to quit. I still miss the ritual.

Anyone who has quit smoking will tell you that the habit is the hardest part about quitting, not the physical addiction.

Re:People Hooked on Vapes Try a New Way to Quit: Cigarettes on Tuesday September 22, 2026 @05:35PM (#49808472)
I quit smoking by using Swedish snus until I got used to not smoking and then just tapered off the snus. This was after smoking 2 packs a day for 10+ years.
Re:Chop Up Your Books on Tuesday September 15, 2026 @06:25PM (#49719702)
I used to do this with textbooks so that I didn't have to carry around the whole book all semester. But, I would take it to staples and have the binding chopped off and have it three hole punched, then keep it in a binder.
Re:Grok Outage on Thursday September 03, 2026 @12:02PM (#49552243)
A service I use at work, non-ai related, is down and they said it was because of an issue with one of their cloud services. Maybe related.
Re:Play Store blocks AuroraStore, hurting GrapheneOS users on Tuesday September 01, 2026 @12:24PM (#49524186)
Yeah, was confused. I'm on GrapheneOS and don't even know what Aurora is.
There's also currently a recall of 30,000 pounds of Argentina beef at the same time Trump announced they would be increasing the allowed imports of Argentina beef and are relaxing beef import regulations so that they can undercut American ranchers.
Re:Autism mutations drive neurodevelopmental pathology on Thursday August 27, 2026 @04:18PM (#49470626)
I feel like your initial question can be applied to a lot of things. For instance, Elher Danlos Syndrome has 13 variations depending on which gene is mutated. This include 11 known mutations and 2 catch-all categories for variations where we haven't yet found the mutation. Why are all these mutations under the same disease when they have such a range of symptoms? My guess is that it is because they were all lumped together before we had the language to talk about them as separate things or the technology to identify the causes. Going back and saying oh all these people don't have ASD or EDS or whatever but this specific thing that we have now identified might cause some disruption is research and awareness.
Re:Aphantasia Beginner's Guide on Thursday August 27, 2026 @01:44PM (#49468498)
Not for me. My memories, fantasies, thoughts just look like movies. If I get deep into thought it takes over my whole perception and I don't see the world around me at all. Kind of scary when I get home from work and realize I was lost in thought and can't remember the drive.
Re:Black hole singularity is a surface not a point on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @02:24PM (#49438396)
Would this apply also to the singularity at the beginning of the universe? I guess I thought that the singularity was where all matter is compressed so much that it occupies a zero dimension point. I'm not sure if that applies equally to black holes and the singularity at the beginning of the universe. I'm kind of dumb on this stuff even though it fascinates me.
Re:I Just Want to Search on Friday August 21, 2026 @01:38PM (#49391450)
I use protonmail and the search is genuinely atrocious. Like the word can be in the title and it still won't find it.
