How is downloading a movie copyright infringement?
The silicon valley/startups/VC tribe, and they favour Twitter because 1. that's what their friends use and 2. they like Elon Musk, they want to be like him.

That's a bit of a useless comment, isn't it?

The bookstore I like to visit doesn't sell the books I want to read.
There have been huge improvements since the first petrol engine, and huge improvements in the last 20 years as well. Petrol engines are some of the most studied and meticulously engineered things ever created.

The resulting "dish" is a png that you can open in a new tab, or just download straight away.
Have you read anything by McCarthy? His writing style is as far from "Said Bookism" as you can come.
Yes, that is the definition (I am Swedish and I've endured many people asking me my "colour".) It's absurd, isn't it? Especially using so many emotive words.
Not for me, I'm in Europe. (and it's big enough to not suffer from a HN-of-Death.)
Re:Will Sylvia Plath always be defined by her death? on Thursday July 22, 2021 @10:29AM (#27919284)
Yes, no one focuses on or is sad that Tupac, John Lennon, Kafka, Percy Bysshe Shelley or John Keats died young...
I know /r/CompLing on Reddit is quite popular.

Definitely not. Very few people die of traffic accidents, and that number has been sinking steadily since 1970. (1950: 595, 1960: 1036, 1970: 1307, 1980: 848, 1990: 772, 2000: 591, 2010: 266)
Re:0.999...= 1 on Tuesday April 28, 2020 @03:09PM (#23010603)
0, if we're talking natural numbers or integers. There isn't one if we're talking real numbers. Simple proof:

Assume x is the largest number smaller than 1.

(x + 1)/2 is a number larger than x but smaller than 1. Our assumption that x is the largest number smaller than 1 must be wrong. QED.

I mean, not really.

1. There is one substance that rewrites your mind.

2. There is more than one substance that rewrites your mind.

Are very different postulates.

Re:German expressions that don’t exist in English on Monday December 30, 2019 @05:58AM (#21912497)
Yes, you are correct. The direct translation is "urskulda" which is a Swedish word meaning "justify" or "excuse".

Of course.

There is no inherent value in having a different view. There's value in having a different view that has some value.

Well, that is literally how to convert between them. It's not an approximation.
Re:Use YouTube to improve your English pronunciation on Wednesday June 19, 2019 @04:55PM (#20227227)
Interesting. I found one problem, though. (Or is it a feature?)

All examples I listened to of "coup de grâce" pronounced it /ku də ɡrɑː/, while the "correct" way (if there is such a thing)is /ku də ɡrɑs/.

This kind of thing must come up in more examples. I'm not usually on the prescriptive side of things, but I think it's important to know the "right" way to do things, at least when you're learning a language. On the other hand, hypercorrection will probably never disappear, so why not embrace it?

Even with inflation, they'll be worth 50 AUD. But you won't be able to buy as much with it.

You didn't answer the question: what is so horrible about trying to help oneself by tempering one's emotions and seeking happiness within?

Re:Epic Games banked a $3B profit in 2018 on Thursday December 27, 2018 @05:41PM (#18773291)
Revenue and profit are two entirely different things. If it says profit, I feel like it's more likely it's profit rather than revenue.
Re:Introducing Project Mu on Thursday December 20, 2018 @09:08AM (#18724961)
>I guess "just Google for Mu" won't work any more

Has it so far? Did you say "Mu"? In that case people could have googled for all kinds of things: Mew or moo or me or something else. And even if they knew how it is spelled the first results would have been the greek letter mu, the zen mu, or the football team Manchester United. In Sweden a lot of the results were about a children's tv-programme, Mamma Mu.

Your editor is not on the first, second or third page of Google, I didn't look any further, because who does?

It's probably good for you that you realised saying "just Google for Mu" won't work "anymore".
