Shouldn't SVG be compressed in the same way as other text contents like HTML and JS? Woff opts out of this behavior, but it's standard with all web servers.

Lock8 | Berlin, Germany | ONSITE | FULLTIME

Lock8 (http://lock8.me) is a young Berlin-based startup that brings GPS tracking and Bluetooth connectivity to bicycle locks around the globe. After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Lock8 was declared winner of TechCrunch Disrupt Europe 2013, raised a series A and is now searching to expand the IT team.

* We are currently seeking a Python developer to join our back-end team. Our technology stack on the server involves Python 3, Django, Ngingx, ZeroMQ and SaltStack.

* We are also searching for a JavaScript developer to join our front-end team. The selected candidate will be working with cutting-edge technologies like React, EcmaScript 6, Sass, RWD and gulp.

It's not required that you know all these tools already, but if you lack experience we will ask for a Github or StackOverflow profile to get to know you better.

We are a tightly-knit cross-functional team, so communication skills are vital. We are looking for strong problem-solvers, developers that like what they do and would be a good fit for our company culture. If you think you are a fit, we should definitely talk.

Re:Nearly 5M of GMail accounts leaked on Wednesday September 10, 2014 @01:30PM (#8297751)
These passwords where probably not stolen from GMail but come from reusing passwords from other websites.

To check out if your account has been leaked: http://isleaked.com/en.php

To search through the ASCII file (only addresses, no passwords): https://mega.co.nz/#!b5lREBgS!LnC9yfR3RC--iMeNMWdQP7m1j4nUf9...

Has anyone compared Route53 with the new Google Cloud DNS? https://developers.google.com/cloud-dns/

I'm interested in differences feature-wise.

Google Now is integrating some information extracted from the user inbox, when the received e-mail includes the right schemas:

https://developers.google.com/gmail/actions/

By the moment it requires registration, but we are using it and works nicely. It's one step in the right direction, I suppose.

That was an actual game at some MIT presentations. Eventually the speaker noticed.
Re:Our love-hate relationship with OAuth on Wednesday October 09, 2013 @12:17PM (#6522173)
If this is your case you may want to consider Mozilla Persona, which will default to OAuth for some providers such as GMail.

We do have bizarre situations like people logging in using Twitter or Yahoo accounts bound to GMail, but they are rarely an issue. It's more frequent the case where a user is trying to open their account page using the wrong GMail account.

Anyway, our plan is to detect multiple accounts with the same e-mail address and offer the user to merge them, but we are not sure about how to do this since e-mail addresses are not immutable.

Most people are integrating libraries into the server side, I guess. Security HTTP proxies are something that I have only seen in banks.

The repo they use for demos at GitHub says something like "fork? fork you!"

Re:Ask HN: Where are you storing your passwords? on Thursday February 21, 2013 @03:46AM (#5256236)
I did a search on HN and SO and found nothing. Do you have a link to investigate further?

Ask HN: Where are you storing your passwords?

Linux passwords, database passwords, third-party system passwords, mail passwords... At some point they have to be written down somewhere, and the possibility of a plain text file leaking online gives me the creeps. Manual encryptation means that at some point (while editing) it exists unencrypted on disk, and a leak could happen (a backup copy of your text editor, for example).I am not talking...

It strikes me as funny the difference in tone between the Shimomura and Mitnick entries in this website. Biased++
Re:Ask HN: Best books you read in 2012 on Tuesday December 25, 2012 @07:19PM (#4967599)
I can confirm that Pattern Recognition is (in my memory) even better than Ready Player One, which is also an amazing book. Thanks for the others, didn't know about them.
Re:Show HN: an open source HTML5 + CSS3 course on Thursday November 22, 2012 @12:47PM (#4819468)
You are absolutely right, it looks better now. Thanks!
Re:Show HN: an open source HTML5 + CSS3 course on Thursday November 22, 2012 @11:17AM (#4819188)
Sorry about that. We are strongly opinionated, since we have been developing with IE support since version 5.5 (that we don't miss much, truth be told).

The course has an entire module dedicated to make things work in IE: http://html5.instructormatters.com/0.3/browsers-and-seo.html...

You are right that IE10 is a standards-compliant, really good browser (not so much IE9). We were rushing to get the contents out and probably should re-check our browser assumptions.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I am afraid there is no graphic designer among us. We are all IT guys.
Re:Adobe Edge Web Fonts on Monday September 24, 2012 @03:06PM (#4566347)
Also, there is an extra DNS round trip by using an external web service. And I hate seeing JavaScript crawl into my <head> tag - certainly not for a web font.
Re:Why you should not be displaying relative dates. on Friday August 24, 2012 @01:32AM (#4426363)
It gets even worse with DST. is GMT+2 meant to be Spain in summer, or something else?

Relative dates are a blessing where space is a constraint

Re:AWS is down due to an electrical storm in the US on Saturday June 30, 2012 @03:03AM (#4180974)
I can only talk about my experience, but I've had zero downtime with GAE since we migrated to the HR datastore. Development is x1000 harder, but then everything Just Works.

There is an icon to do the same in the CSS tab of chrome inspector
