It's already stated that their math is flawed, but you can show them by pushing it to the extreme. What if they took 10% of everyones equity. That would leave them with 30% each and you with nothing.

Thanks! Thanks for the ideas. Many are good, my favorite is the guest blogging idea.

Ask HN: How to drive traffic to a side project

I started 300dayweekend.com as a side project for myself and other travelers to share short travel stories. Friends and a few random visitors have given me great feedback on the content, but I'm struggling to drive traffic. I've had some success on Reddit, but submitting too many links to the same base URL gets posts hidden. I'm open to other thoughts?

The free private repos are a lifesaver. They also just released a refer a friend program like dropbox. You can get up to 8 users for free. - http://blog.bitbucket.org/2012/09/18/refer-a-friend-to-bitbu...

I've been on the flip side of the fence. I've had some ideas I was quite keen on, but then got them destroyed by experts in the field. When an expert like Chris tells you that you have a good idea, then you know you're onto something.

P.S. Chris, if you still want to make those business cards, here's a link to 50 free business cards - http://efbuys.com/publishers/efactor/daily_deals/30088

Re:Ask HN: What Sites would you clone in an emerging country? on Monday February 14, 2011 @02:04PM (#2218076)
Taking suggestions from popular sites is OK. But cloning? Make sure you do something original.
Re:Ask HN: How can I quit talking myself out of my own ideas? on Friday January 07, 2011 @04:40PM (#2081232)
1) Tell your friends about your idea - If they are out in public, and worth pursuing, you will be less likely to abandon them

2) Create an idea journal - The world may not be ready for some of your ideas, but in a few years, who knows.

What a weak article. 98,000 vs. 99,000, off an unreliable sample size. Expected from CNBC
Re:How Rich Is Rich? on Friday October 22, 2010 @10:09PM (#1822296)
I spent a few month in rural Nepal (think $10/month for rent). An ipod, digital camera and a few grand in the back account was enough to be considered uber-rich. It's all perspective.

Sidenote: Now im back in the startup game and im just as greedy as every else

I am helping a serial entrepreneur who has the exact same problem of "turning his brain off". The best thing we have found is the pranayama iPhone app by saagara.com.

Try it for 15 minutes, everyday, either in the morning, or before bed.

Ask HN: I created an app prototype, how do I hire a great developer(on equity)?

There are a few public transit prediction apps for San Francisco out there, but I created a prototype that is easier to use and more intuitive than anything on the market. I showed the prototype to 20 people, friends and randoms waiting at bus stops, and almost everyone agreed that I have a killer concept, once person even quipped "Now I wont miss my bus while trying to find out when it comes"....
