I think there's nothing better than practice :)
And in case you want to get familiar with the profession, I could offer to try Talk to Ri app in about one week) (it's the product I'm working on, it hasn't launched yet though and its content isn't updated for now).
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/talk-to-ri-business-english/...
It's actually more for learning English for tech, but we will have a conversations trainer, including tech sales manager program)

I know big companies often have professional development plans for their employees. They offer courses and cover some educational expenses. Small companies and startups are following this trend as well.
I am interested in how it happens in your company. And what would you suggest a good option on your current/previous job to help you enhance your career and be more motivated to stay and grow...
Meditations. You learn to focus on something for as long as you wish. Fewer distractions. It helped me a lot because I'm the one who's extra multitasking, which wasn't productive enough. I've started meditating, and it changed my workflow completely.
I've just created an account. We are getting tons of feedback, so your product sounds interesting.
Thinking about Calm - I've started meditating, and this changed everything in my life :)
What I usually did, before starting own company, - is exploring LinkedIn/FB profiles of my future teammates:) Maybe it's weird, but I felt more confident and it was easier to integrate knowing the whole picture.
I use two things: physical notebook with unlined pages - I draw ideas pretty often, and iPhone notes (I group them by topics).
Have you tried looking for a job at UX agencies? They usually have a focus and are pretty small.
