Maintenance, capacity management and spares all add up, not to mention labour. If they have a requirement to maintain geographical diversity then that moves the needle significantly if they’re primarily based on the other side of the country.
It’s entirely possible the battery controllers are running linux too
Certification do exist for engineers, and various industries and governments impose their own certification programs on platforms and software before they’re authorised for use.
Each with varying degrees of trust. The outcome is never perfect, but that’s not their purpose.
Unless you build from scratch, and white box stores suddenly start selling a 48v version of every standard household appliance (with industrial supply chain to support that market), inverters are not going anywhere.
The only place it makes sense is personal tech and computing, where USB chargers are cheap and ubiquitous, with technology replacement in 2-5 years instead of 5-10 for standard appliances.
I initiated some small talk with a guy at a security conference once. Turned out he was an ink DRM expert at one of the big companies.
Interesting convo but I didn’t invite him to drinks later that evening.
But you can do that. You can go and root it with a fork. You just won’t run banking apps on it, because it introduces undue risk that they don’t want to absorb.
This ‘all or nothing’ attitude in the comments is a bit silly to be honest.
What exactly are you referring to?
One involves illegitimate benefits to someone in a position of power or authority.
Bribery applies to people in power or authority.
It’s not a ‘sneaky way of avoiding vulnerabilities going public’, it’s a responsible disclosure agreement between two consenting parties.
He provided this response to one of several questions on instagram asking when the next video would be released:

@cianocadhla I would like to take my time to make this series as high quality as I can, however I have many incentives to release this as fast as possible. The 2nd video is getting closer to being finished but I will be waiting to release it once YouTube approves monetization shortly”
There is too much gold and copper in the ground to even consider deforestation and self determination
After all of the agonising about AI companions, we realised that we just wanted someone to play games with.
Flashing the bios takes ten minutes with a thumb drive.
It’s hard to get wrong but guess some people would be nervous enough about that to pay $20 extra.
A negative example could be: ‘That scumbag Derrick poached my best employees.’
I know that, but how does that adversely affect the customer, who does not pay for browsers.
Forgive my ignorance.
How is the iOS engine requirement considered a monopoly?
Most people know what poaching means without making that association. It’s a perfectly legitimate term across all forms of employment, in both negative and positive contexts.
Do we also need to retire ‘head hunting’, because it brings to mind cartoonishly outdated notions of savagery?
My university ran its render farm across idle workstations using the screensaver back in early 2000. Same concept.
The ‘features that rely on server-side models’ are almost certainly generative content, not everyday stuff that Siri ought to do out of the box.
Tue difference here is that you can strobe the room without being in it. It’s not uncommon so see visual contract artefacts in commodity surveillance products, so it will poorly be ignored. Future cameras and NVRs/DVRs might eventually introduce some sort of detection flag, but the false positives are likely be a nuisance.
To be fair, this is Deloitte Cyprus. Not that other partnerships wouldn’t do the same, but one that is set up in a renowned tax haven is likely to come across some interesting work.
The two are inexorably related
My favourite car advertisement was for the Mini Moke:
‘Moking is not a wealth problem’
One or two DDR3 ramdisk cards were produced but they’re basically non-existent today. There are DDR4/5 ones (CXL), but they they’re restricted to specific enterprise motherboards.
> This isn’t really a new thing.
The concept isn’t necessarily new, but this is a novel approach that stimulates through optical means using a strobe, not RF.
The practical uses are more applicable to laundering open source code covered by copyleft licensing like GNU.
Would love to see an InDesign clone that supports writing to and from their proprietary format.
Literally every TLS connection could be flagged as being a VPN connection.
I'm not Polish, and don't know much more than what's in this thread and in the post, but the world has changed
a lot since the late 60's.
I'm not discounting the value of the good things you mention, but is there anything else to add to the 'golden age' description?
