Re:A CS degree is better than teaching yourself how to code?

I'm currently pursuing my CS degree after a couple of decades working as a programmer. The big difference is that you will miss "why" and learn mostly "how", unless you have a very inquisitive mind. On the other hand, not everybody can afford years of no income or crippling debt.

I tried to open a new account on Twitter app for Android, using only my email. It was going ok until it asked me to provide my phone after confirming my email. The reason: suspicious activity / spam behavior. The account is in limbo now, and I can't access it any more.
Time to spin up a Mastodon instance.

Because, you know, big companies are really great at building secure internal software when chasing the cheapest dollar. </s>

The reason not to is the colonial exploitation of an island nation. Doesn't seem to bother many people though.
This would work if means of production were distributed more equally. The global productivity is already at a point where many of us don't need to work, but we still do because we are denied the benefits of the automation that you mention.
