Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2026) on Sunday May 10, 2026 @09:43PM (#48090142)
I'm building aiki.sh so Claude and Codex can work together without babysitting
Re:Agents need control flow, not more prompts on Thursday May 07, 2026 @05:23PM (#48055259)
This exactly why I’m building aiki to be a control layer for harness execution. I don’t think the model companies will ever give us the neutral layer we need.
Re:What is jj and why should I care? on Tuesday April 14, 2026 @08:49AM (#47764991)
I've gone all in on jj with a OSS framework I'm building. With just a little extra context, the agents have been amazingly adapt at slicing and dicing with jj. Gives them a place to play without stomping on normal git processes.
I am cooking up an abstraction that enables these hooks on codex. Would love to have you kick the tires.
Re:Lessons Learned Going from Zero to $30k/Month in a Year on Thursday October 17, 2013 @01:36PM (#6566854)
Agree completely. Now that we've tested the simplest page we could come up with, it's time to start adding other paths to the funnel.

Sounds like you guys were sent to a rather drastic test we're running right now. I prefer more content too, but the video is currently in the lead.

It's not your last chance; it's your next chance. Good luck Stefan!!
Re:Ask HN: Adwords tips for a SaaS business on Sunday December 02, 2012 @08:57PM (#4863523)
Hard to say much without seeing the keywords you're running this ad against. I'd say the biggest problem is that the searcher has no idea what you do from your ad. For all they know you could be selling wholesale shirts. So #1 get your main benefit/feature up front and center.

Get Your Act Together Cut Waste. Streamline Your Shop from Your Browser. Start a Free Trial Today.

Obviously you have to play with it but that should send you in the right direction. It's all trial and error though. Good luck!

That's the mods. Pretty sure they're sensitive to anything with YC in the title.

Ask HN: Can you help me out of Adwords API purgatory?

Hey HN, I'm at a standstill with my startup, and I need your help/advice. Last year I started building MonkeyWords, an Adwords management app for small businesses. It was a part time gig at first, but I sold my retail business in November to focus on it 100%.Everything was going great. Advertisers responded well to the product, and I decided to hire a a designer and go for it. Before I made...

Just looked at your portfolio. You should have no problem finding an internship.
Re:Ask HN: I'm looking for a good graphic illustrator on Friday December 16, 2011 @08:14AM (#3360594)
Good designers are ridiculously hard to find now. Try scouring Dribbble to find someone:

http://dribbble.com/search?q=retro

It took me a while, but I was able to the perfect designer after a couple weeks.

Re:Ask HN: [RoR Devs] Where did you learn Ruby on Rails? on Thursday July 28, 2011 @08:18PM (#2819598)
You need two main books to get started:

- http://pragprog.com/book/ruby3/programming-ruby-1-9 - http://pragprog.com/book/rails4/agile-web-development-with-r...

Read them in that order so that you learn Ruby first. After that your'll want to polish your Ruby and Rails idioms with:

- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0672328844 - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0321601661

Enjoy!

That would be resounding yes. I have over ten years of experience in my market, but I still learn something every time I talk to a potential customer. Talking with customers will challenge most of your assumptions, and we can all use a little time outside our bubbles.

Re:Ask HN: Can I compete? on Thursday July 14, 2011 @03:36PM (#2764655)
It's near impossible to find anything with zero competition. If you think you can build and market it, do it. You never know what direction your competition is going to take.

I'm working on project that would have been in direct competition with a YC funded company. Then they were bought by Twitter and dissolved a month before my launch date.

I used to have the same workflow. Checkout http://spootnik.net to sync OmniFocus with your Basecamp accounts. Then you can just work in OmniFocus for the most part.

I've since moved everything into http://getflow.com. If you're mainly using the task lists in Basecamp, have a look at them.

It has to be an extension that is parsing every page you visit.

Re:Ask HN: Overcoming an Inferiority Complex on Saturday June 18, 2011 @01:09PM (#2669010)
It sounds like you have self confidence issues which lead to a fear of failure. The only way to overcome it is to take a leap of faith. The time is now. I waited until I was 30 to really get over it, and I wasted most of my 20s. So basically:

- stop comparing yourself to others - stop being afraid of failure - just fucking do it

You'll be amazed how freeing it is to not worry about failing anymore. This isn't to say it isn't a hard "habit" to break. I still have my own doubts, but I just remember rejection/failure is only temporary. To paraphrase someone much wiser than me:

"On my deathbed, I will regret not trying things far more than I'll regret failing at them"

So my suggestion to you: start a side project and get to hacking. Pick a small problem that drives you crazy and set out to program a solution in Rails. It doesn't even have to be something to make money; you just need to put yourself out there.

Maybe this isn't you, but your story sounds very familiar. I've been self-employed since I was 20, but I never let myself take it to the next level. If I can save you or someone else those wasted years, it was worth writing this. This Steve Jobs quote still gives me chills, and it spurred me to change my life:

"For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something…almost everything – all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose."

Looked interesting.. until I was greeted by a ridiculously long lead generation form.

Love the passion, but you might want to rerecord it. The high pitch squeal is unbearable.
Re:Want to move fast? Just do this on Friday March 11, 2011 @10:24PM (#2315877)
I used Staticmatic, but I never liked having to move all my HAML/SASS over to my app. I recently replaced it with the showoff plugin [1], which is basically Staticmatic inside a Rails app.
